Vegas some of us are not sitting in front of a computer screen waiting for you or anyone else to ask a question and Doug’s answers is correct, that number is both winner and runner up.

For your information there have only been 2 dogs that got to 30 championships, Selina 21 championships and 12 runner ups and Elhew Sunflower 16 championships and 14 runner ups.

Joo,

For your information it is Elhew Swami. Relax. You get so freaking worked up about your dog. She is one of the GREATS. I just wanted to know.

How many of those championships were in breed restricted stakes?

Where are you going with that Cajun? I don't want to speak for Joe, but I would assume that the majority of Selina's Championship placements were in NGSPA. These are AF hour Championships and some awesome dogs compete in it. I wouldn't put it past the Selina dog if she didn't win a few Championships against the AF pointer/setter guys. I heard she was that good.

Vages there is no doubt in my mind that she could have won a number of pointer championships and that dog totally changed my view of the quality of GSPs. I think Joe told me that he did run her in a hand full of pointer trials and won, but I don’t remember if he had said they were championships. And Joe it was Swami.

Thanks Jam.

I agree. I've seen some GSPs that could play with the pointers/setters.

I would like to add a few.
NFC/FC/AFC Slick Dixies Tarkus. One of the most consistent shooting dogs during his time.
NC FC Tonelli's Rising Son. Never seen a dog to date with his athleticism.
FC/AFC Billy Dee's Blues in A. A threat every time she was put down.
I saw all of these dogs with my own eyes and we all have different reasons why we think these are the best GSP's ever. Just our own opinions.

No doubt Sunny belongs on that list of some of the best. I also have to put him at the TOP of the biggest screwed at a national championship. One of the greatest all age performances I have ever seen was at the GSPCA nationals, it was a shame that the judges didn’t recognize it.

I think I judged Raz a ma Tazz at region 7 a number of years ago, but I guess the dog had an off day. I don’t think that dog won very many championships. Now CC Pappion was another story, very high powered, my kind of dog and he did win a punch, I would take that dog home in a heartbeat. I wasn’t there, but I heard that when he won the GSPCA Nationals it was one of the all time best.

A guy out here in UT owned one of the best in our state, I dont know the exact titles but I think she is NFC/FC/AFC Brandilyn Dawn Von Verrige and had some success in the Hour stuff as well. I know she took runner up at an all breed SD stake in ID and a big time pointer guy did tell me that if he was to ever get a GSP it would be out of her. I only saw her once and it was along time ago.

Tonelli's Rising Son was retired right after the 2004 NGSPA win. He is still alive and believe to be about 14 now. There is many of his get around but nothing even remotely close to him so far.

Eldon Hongo has a 7 year old son of his name Sunrise Wondering Ronin "Roni" that is pretty nice. Not yet his fathers shadow but has done well in AF events.

Smitty, as I was told had over 25 Championship placements. I could ask Greg Anderson and find out exactly how many wins but what a dog. Joe, like you I have seen some fantastic big winning dogs and didnt think much of them at that time but scoreboard speaks for itself. He had a bad bite and was only bred maybe once or twice. When I owned Blues and they ran against each other it was always a knife fight and you never knew who might win. One year Terry Zigalinski and I ran Smitty and Blues at the Region 12 championship and scouted for each others dog. Both of thought the other dog won and as it turns out Smitty won and Blues took RU.

Carl, I'm pretty sure that's not correct; actually I AM sure that's not correct.

Sonny went R/U at Eureka in the fall of '04, and then placed 4th in the fall of '05. I want to say he was run in '06 but would have to check my catalogs to be sure. I rode his AA brace 3 years in a row; either 03, 04 & 05, or 04, 05, & 06.

FWIW,
Dave

Which of these dogs mentioned on here were AA dogs? What were the better ones that are still alive. I also note that some may have not competed as much as others for onecreason or another.

I think it's qualified to American Field and AKC All Age. I would like the NSTRA perspective, though, and think it deserves it's own topic. Some very nice dogs there.

Yea, I was only writing about AKC and Am. Field Trial AA dogs. Not that the shoot to retrieve dogs are less important, I am just trying to learn more about the other AA dogs now.
