French Brittany Photo Slideshow

Post by wems2371 » Fri Apr 22, 2011 7:53 am

This is a photo slideshow from a French Brittany event that my husband and I volunteered to help at. He volunteered to shoot birds & I volunteered to shoot pictures. I'm no pro, and my pics aren't all winners. This is my 2nd time volunteering at an event this year though, and it gives a lot of opportunity for practice in a short period of time. There are quite a few butt photographed points. I didn't really have to be told , but I was to stay back with the judge, so the gunners had one less person to worry about. Needless to say, that cut into my opportunity to get facial expression and what not, on point. It was a terrific couple days--except for maybe the 6-7 hours of walking each day. But I can't think of a more enjoyable way to shed a few pounds! I got to see a lot of great dogs and learn more about the breed. These dogs have some wheels, which made it fun to watch, and seeing a dog couler (?) was impressive. And lastly, I met a lot of really nice folks from around the US & Canada, some that I didn't realize were on GDF. Hope ya'll enjoy.

I went to the Show only on Sat to meet a breeder there and to see his dogs. Some really great looking dogs at the show, many of which I recognize in the photos.

Some GREAT photos you captured there! Thanks for sharing!

Derek has done a tremendous amount of work with Jovi, and it has paid off!!

Better be careful taking all those pictures. you might start having clubs ask you to be their official photogarpher!

Ryan, I thought I had said something about it to you, I am sorry I didn't. There is a trial coming up in Benson Minnesota May 6-8, where there will be a lot of the same dogs competeing. If you are interested let me know and I will get you the information.

Great pics, maybe we can get you to come down to Ga and take some pics in the pines. Always wished more people would take pics at trials and hunt test. Good job and thanks for sharing. Tony

Mark, no troubles, you may have said something and I forgot about it. It's my four year old nieces birthday on May 7th, better not miss that, but maybe I could make it down on the 8th. Never been to a trial, although I think it would be a great experience. If you could send me some info that would be much appreciated. Maybe I can talk my dad into coming with and we can bring Georgia down for a visit.

I would say it is closet to an AKC hunt test, with Gun class being like a SH test and open class like MH test but judged as a field trial with placements. They have braces only in open. You also have a chance to run on wild birds.

I am still a bit confused here. Could someone please give a bried description of the UKC of AKC rules? I didn't think that either one favored the shooting of birds. Are all of the birds shot or just one to judge the dog on his retrieving ability? I would love to see more trials ran on courses like NBHA with NSTRA rules that don't encourage a dog to run off. It has gotten where many of the walking trials have basically turned into horseback shooting dog without the horse. Thanks, SCKWEST

UKC Field Trials are of 2 types, Liberated and Wild. Wild birds are not shot. In Liberated trials ALL birds are gunned on course, and the dog has to retrieve every bird shot for it. As Derek said the requirements are somewhat similar to AKC Hunt Tests, the requirements for the Gun Dogs are roughly the same as Senior Hunt, and the requirements for Open Dogs are roughly the same as Master Hunt. Every dog can recieve a "Pass" if it meets the minimum requirements for the Class it is running. There is also a 1st Place, and a Reserve (2nd) Place that can be given. No further palcements, e.g. 3rd place, are given.
