Frank, what about Wind Warrior, I think Dean has a litter on the ground from him? But with Ice Hot in some of the dogs around that may not really be going outside the norm. JB tells me I will enjoy meeting you at Solon, in Oct. SDGORD

You can always call the sorby's - Springset Kennels. They have some nice dogs.

Check them out online:

I know sharp mtn handled a very nice duel. Here's the link from their web page, but I'm sure Lara Spears could give you the contact info

That's funny.

Billy, not quite sure what you mean by funny? What I was referring to is Springsets Ice Hot, who sired a multitude of field trial champions. And by going outside the norm, I think if I read Frank correctly he is looking to broaden the gene pool.SDGORD

I understood Frank's post.....the three breeders I mentioned in my post above......their is NO Ice Hot in there, that i'm aware of.

Althought most of today's field Gordon pedigrees have been saturated with that linage, their are still some without that immediate line.

Difficult to find though.

sdgord, Sorry I didn't mean anything bad. It just the way you worded it. I know Ice Hot is a Springset dog and going outside the norm--(Norm Sorby) just struck me funny. I'm sorry just the way my mind works sometimes, hope I didn't offend you.

Frank if you look at my dog's pedigree (click on perfect pedigree# 147 below), you'll see Norm found a dog out of France here in the USA. I think he kept a male & a female out of that litter, but since he sold most of his dogs and moved to Oregon, I don't know if he has them still.
There's a lot of trial dogs in Europe too. Have you thought of trying for some new blood from there? Here's a site with some of the french field dogs.

Not offended, I figured you should know about Ice Hot and it dawned on me that the way I worded it was a bit humorous.SDGORD

Maverick,
Where does Mike Lankford live in KY? Also Bill Wright in MO. Can you tell me more about their lines? I am very interested in adding more Belmore to my dogs. All of my dogs have Belmore, Milomix in their lineage.

I'm just asking, what's the deal with Ice Hot anyway! You sound as if having Ice hot in the blood lines is a bad thing. I understand that Frank is looking for new blood, but I still get the impression that others are staying away from that line. I'm just curious why?

I have a direct son of Ice Hot so be kind.. His hips have been OFA'd Good and is a terrific bird dog.

Not being unkind to Ice HOt at all, he must have been quite the dog to sire as many field trial champions as he did from so many different lines. My Annie dog is an Ice Hot great granddaughter. I think what I was driving at is that the gene pool if concentrated on Ice Hot gets a bit narrow. I have admired several Ice Hot sons, Paul Jaeger in Hudson has Ice Hots Cobb who won the NAFC two years in a row, he has some nice pups on the ground also from what I hear. So believe me when I say I certainly am not taking anything away from Ice Hot. As a matter of fact if the Stetson thing doesnt work for Annie I would seriously consider an outstanding Ice Hot son such as Cobb.SDGORD

SDGord,
Thanks for the reply. I bred my Chance (Ice Hot son) dog to a grand daughter of Ice Hot and and the pups are doing great as bird dogs, the owners are VERY happy with them, but there are a few things I didn't like about how some were put together. I won't breed that close to Ice Hot again

Will you be at the hunt test in MN on the 29th and 30th of April? I'd like to see your dogs. I don't know if I'll be entered, but I may show up just to see all the dogs run.

SDGord's last post summed it up.....Ice Hot's prodigy record clearly speaks for itself, they've been great within the trials. At the same time, his note re the Gene Pool speaks for itself as well. I think the gordon people are realizing this, and are attempting to open things up just abit. There are some very good, knowledgeable people out there.

Tom, we will be at Kelly farms for the North Country hunt test, I will be running one of the girls in SH and the other in MH. Both dogs are 100 percent master broke about 70 percent of the time. Its just which end of the broke scale they choose to use on any given day. SDGORD
