much like my setter that can't swim. She's just too dumb to realize it every time she goes paddling around a pond. Which happens every chance she gets.

Adogslife you got it backwards but I think you know that!! Oh & mine are the so called American Bred half breeds you know more pointers then GSPS & not even closely related to the elite DKs. :)

Is field trial bread like granola bars?
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

There is swimming and there is swimming. Of course dogs of all breeds can swim but there is a big difference between the pool and this(10X zoom...last year at the end of a July training day)....a dog in heavy water hours after the duck was lost....
Image

or whether that dog can sit 3-4 hours quietly in the blind waiting for the retrieve. I never thought swimming of itself is a problem. Here's the same picture with no zoom

JKP
that's a whole other level
There's a difference between a hand thrown mark in barely swimming depth water and blind duck search-(w/o a shot.)

Life jackets, folks,really????
Oh, the shame of it.

Here are 4 1/2 month old pups in flooded timber ... they had found a couple of mallards on this water a few days prior....watch as they keep after the duck til it flies (excuse the quality)
Image

and then they go back, fight through the brush and run the shoreline to see if they can find it again

Image

These pups now run 3-400 yds when I park the truck to go search this water...it will be drying up soon....finding wild ducks on water like this....you can't pay for that exposure opportunity!!!

I think that video shows more then love for water.Shows me a smart pup & willing to please & trainability by standing there with a high tail waiting in anticipation of the command.
