If you could go right now and get any setter pup you wanted, cost not being an issue or distance where would you go? this is just for opinions not to run anyones dogs down or start an arguement I am interested in opinion.

I think I saw these pups on Bob's Facebook page. Very sharp looking.

I'd have another one of these.

I like the young dogs I've seen by Jetsetter.

Definitly call Vincent or Michaletz and get a Jetsetter pup.

Thanks for the opinions, they sound spot on, is Old Hemlock the one that has the breeding contract where you cant own the dog by yourself?

I have it.... Pointed, and held his first bird last sat at the NAVHDA Training day... Didn't get a pic of that, but here is one of a few months ago...

In the same vain . . . why does it seem the the well-bred setters cost so much more than similarly well bred pointers and GSPs? This may not be the norm -- may just be what I have seen lately.

I am not a setter owner, but love they way they look and have been reading and eye-balling breedings/offerings for a few months.

PROVEN top quality setter breedings are not as plentiful as Pointers and GSPs.

I'm trying to recall if I've ever seen any ugly setter.. can't think of one

but I have to say that I always thought High Cotton's Joshua is a beautiful dog.

Anything from Bill Faust in North Carolina. That is where my last setter came from. I had her from the time she was 6 weeks until just a few months ago and she is 11 years old now. Fantastic hunting dog but does not like children at all. She went to live out the rest of her life with my dad. She went back to Ragged Hill Nip and Tekoa Mountain Sunrise. I would love to have another setter out of this breeding and to raise them with children.

if i got another setter i would go to jim gourley in kansas again, hes a true setter guy..i like tomoka and tekoa lines..heres our setter bailey..he always looked classy in the field in my opinion...ruth

My Setter was brought home to my son then 6 months, now nine. He has been a great addition. He rolls around with him all the time, he is great with him. I was a little nervous at first, but since he has been there since day 1, he has learned to accept his place.

seems like most including me want one from a aa field trial dog and not a NSTRA one. Me I am partial to the Teoka line

Probably shouldn't forget those old Ryman lines.

jlowery, man that is a great pic, a boy and his dog, looks like most of the setters recommended here are big motor dogs, but I bet most of them hunt the terrain if need be thanks for all the replies.

I've seen some nice dogs, including my own (Grand sire and Grand Dam are LG George and LG Agnes), that are out of Long Gone Kennels. I've also seen Wintergreen Max, which should be considered one of the better cover dog setters today, and he really impressed me.

No doubt about it. I have a young dog directly out of Rockacre Blackhawk. Definately the best setter blood available.

I think my Kimber will look exactly like Edgar in about 6 months. And I'm very happy about that. Kimber is a mix of Dashing Bondhu and King's Bomber/Royacelle lines. I would choose the same if I had to do it again.

EZZY......you have to give that low styled Llewellin a break. I mean look at those backing dogs.

Then why wouldn't a person cull the Low style dog. Or at least castrate him. Surely they haven't bred him. Most Setter folks are tring to breed away from dogs that look like that when they are pointing.

Your Llew pup is very handsome indeed and if he looks like Edgar when he grows up, he will be a very nice dog. One difference though, if you care about these things, which most likely you don't, is Edgar has in his 3 generation pedigree 70 championships, including some Grand Natl. Grouse champions. He is from some of the best cover dog trial setters going. He is not my dog, belongs to a friend.

one stop two shots........ 34 pound wonder that was a giant killer in terms of winning against superstar AA sired competitors. A good candidate for the ear punch cloning,if it wasn't so expensive,if I was rich I'd allready have two more.I've had 2 AA sired dogs both rolled together would make about 1/4 of the one pictured.

I almost obtained a beautiful red setter

this big woman was in her subaru (green one too I think) and had this red setter in the back seat, obvously a young dog. I remarked that it was sure a nice looking dog, struck up a conversation. This woman had to have this dog because it was "so pretty". About that time a chipmunk ran across the lot and this setter locked up on that chipmunk for a second, then climbed over the seat and bolted out the window, the woman had a leash on so this setter was now hanging itself out this womans car window


she's like, "hey you want a dog?"

I was like oh man, umm wow ya sorta ya but but but

then she laughed and let me off the hook
