Hunt Test Recommendations

Post by TNovoa » Wed Apr 05, 2006 9:36 am

I'm looking to pick up one last SH leg. There are two tests coming up the weekend of 4/22 and 4/23.

Since I've never been to either location, does anyone have any experiences, recommendations as to the grounds where these are held?

1 - Rimersburg, PA

or

2 - Highland Recreation Area, Highland MI

Last weekend we were in Clarksburg, NJ, where the dogs did great, but the ground cover was burned off. Frankly, it was AWFUL. I'm just hoping to avoid bad grounds again as neither area is in our back yard.

Thanks for any help!

Rimersburg, PA just off of I-80
here's a link to the club that usually runs the events at that location

Memorial Day weekend, there is one in the Poconos. The Delaware Valley GWP club is hosting. Pretty nice grounds, I will be running on Saturday.

The grounds in Rimersburgh are nice. Email the contact on the earlier website and they will send you directions. The directions are very easy to follow.

Anyone been to the grounds at Percy, IL? The American Pointer Club is putting on a test on May 14 to coincide with their specialty in St. Louis. With Justus' limber tail I pulled him from this weekend's running in Des Plaines. My schedule conflicts with a lot of other hunt tests going on this month and I might need the mid-May test to finish his SH.

Rimersburgs Senior/Master course is real nice with reasonably good cover coming out of the Winter. I'd recommend asking how many birds they are planting per brace. ie. The minimum 2 birds "required" by AKC or enough to sufficiently insure bird contact as "recommended" by AKC....

I've decided on Rimersburg, PA. *IF* she finishes SH on Saturday, I might bump her up to MH on Sunday. Therefore, going to PA will eliminate border crossings and firearms, etc.

Thanks for all the input!
