I do most of my "hunting" on public and private land, But with the low numbers of wild birds locally I dont shoot many of the wild birds I encounter. Id say that 50% or more of the birds I shoot are on game preserves.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

I do about a fourth of my hunting in tall grass CRP fields on a couple of friends farms. I also get an indian rez permit(40 miles away) and hunt huge tall grass CRP up there(about 1/2 my hunting). I hunt my young dogs on a local preserve(1/4 of my hunting). I also do a 4 day trip to North Dakota with a friend from GA. for pheasants and huns---most of that is on his cousins wheat farms(creeks running through them for roosting cover).

Hunt a lot of pubic land here in fl and some on our deer lease, got some birds on the deer lease but it's either thick swamp or sawgrass marsh. Hard hunting. very few birds on public land and they get hammered hard, mostly exercise for the dogs, so I take the dogs to a preserve every couple of weeks for some fun.
Good whiskey,good dogs, no BS!

Most of my hunting is on public land (state game lands). The remainder is on a preserve to extend the season and to get into birds. In southern Pa. I have 5 weeks of pheasant season to chase the released birds. I don't live close to good grouse numbers so I get a lot of my work at the preserve.

I would say 60% private and 40% public, depends on where the birds are. Might hit a preserve or two this year with the new pup before the season starts.

Till now I'd say 90% has been private.

Gonna try some public land this year, and maybe some preserves...
I have English Pointers because they don't ever grow up either...

As a Rural Mail Carrier I would have to say customers private land! :D Its a great job! All year long every day I drive my 90 mile route, this allows me to get a feel for what land seems to be holding the birds and what is common on the ground holding the birds compared to the ground where I don't see any birds. I know there are birds on the lands where I don't see them by the roads, but why guess when you know where the birds are concentrated. Just can't wait to use my own dog this year!

Corporate & Private.

State and Federal are notoriously uncaring about proper management of our forests.

These figures above amaze me ; I never realized some Sates have no public land.
With our Crown land holdings and many Conservation areas allowing hunting we are well blessed.
Where I live there is 133 000 acres of public Conservation land.

"Crown land is one of Ontario’s greatest natural assets. It makes up about 87 per cent or 937,000 square kilometers of the province’s land mass – an area the size of British Columbia or four times the size of the United Kingdom! The Ministry of Natural Resources is responsible for managing Ontario’s Crown land in a way that balances social, economic and environmental interests.

Most of the Crown land in Ontario is owned and managed by the province. However, some Crown land including national parks, Indian reserves and some harbours and canal systems fall under the control of the federal government. Public ownership of Crown land allows a wide range of economic, recreational and social activities to take place side by side. Industries such as forestry, mining and commercial tourism can co-exist on the same landscape as recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, bird watching, hiking and camping." quote
" We are more than our gender, skin color, class, sexuality or age; we are unlimited potential, and can not be defined by one label." quote A. Bartlett

We hunt mainly private land in Alabama and encounter very few true wild coveys. We release a large group of birds early each year and then release others throughout the season.
