a little goof

Post by snips » Tue Apr 11, 2006 8:41 pm

I set out today to burn some brush piles. Guess I underestimated the wind. Before I knew it the fire dept was here, then the Forestry Dept with a bulldozer. Rick was desparetly trying to keep the fire from getting in the woods, I was driving the 4-wheeler back and forth filling the water tank. Smoke was getting us both. Then our well pump wires burned leaving us with no water, ughhh. Luckily the bulldozer got a line that stopped it. Pretty much burned up the bird field tho. I told Rick that we could look at the bright side, it probably burned up the ticks. Rick is in counseling now. Don`t think he will let me near any more matches... :P

Nice going  Brenda! Its just great to see the dedication you tick fighters have. They bother me a lot too but never tried to burn them out.Let me know if it works. Oh and say hello to Rick when you get him out of counseling and home again.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

new wildlife damage control techniques???

We burn every year - maybe a good thing in the long run.
A few years back UT students came up to learn burning and it got WAY outta control. Jim and Addison were working the dozer and running the water tanks nearly all night!!

Glad noone is hurt, these can get outta hand quick folks do get hurt fighting these without proper protection.

We burn every year, but no wind, and back burn every time.

My neighbor a few years ago did the same thing, he almost burned our house and another place, lucky we got a new tanker in the VFD fleet. Of course the guys with plows came and helped first :)

I spray all my trees for ticks and fleas every month. Use a good kennel dip and a sprayer on a hose. Keeps flys and mosquitos down too.

Wannabe, We here are certainly grateful no lives or significant property were lost. We are also happy Brenda is such a good sport to take the ribbing we can dish out here among friends !!!!
With a kennel full like that maybe you can hire "snip" to manage your operation.
