Though you had to have a short tail to go to the Quail? Just kidding. They haven't asked my to judge yet. Don't know if I want any of that weather again.

Did I mention I don't like working weekends.... my dog will travel.. depending on the timing with my work and.some other small things I might fly to nationals watch some dogs for a few days and fly home. My dog leaves on memorial day weekend and is going up to OR , Washington, Idaho, KS, then the Vizsla nationals won't be back till November... hunt her for a week or two then trials in ca city and southern az. I'll drive down and go bird hunting during the week...
Re: Trial season is getting close
I'm getting to be an old curmudgeon and have pretty well managed to convince myself I can spend the rest of my birddog life within a couple hundred miles of my house and not feel like I'm missing anything...so I'm staying close to home. Tentatively, very tentatively, I think I might enter a couple dogs in the Reg. 9 ASD Ch, the Idaho Open SD, NW Chukar AA & NW Chukar SD Ch's - they all run over the course of one week near the end of September, good wild bird grounds, and I could knock off my trialing fix and bank account in one fell swoop within a few hours of home. Gotta admit I'm not feeling particularly motivated to put in the effort I know it takes to tackle these hot fall trials...last spring featured some pretty poor outings and can't imagine it won't be more of the same this fall - dogs seem to have taken a liking to being training day all stars and competition day duds!!
Good luck fellars!! Hope to see your smilin' mugs in some winner's circle photos!!

Cough cough... its rough on my account but its worth having a happy dog. This year is about experience . I want a lot of wild birds and get her running in some different areas like eureka and mile post nine. have some friends I will be meeting in southern az for gambles scales and merns. Troy and I might drive up to Utah which would be kick arse. Then hunt chukar between the trials in ca city . Experience on wild birds might make her better in trials. Maybe when she is in her prime I can work Monday Tuesday Wednesday... and trial weekends. But for now the only way she will trial is go with a pro because I can't get Friday through Sunday off.gittrdonebritts wrote:Must be niceultracarry wrote:Did I mention I don't like working weekends.... my dog will travel.. depending on the timing with my work and.some other small things I might fly to nationals watch some dogs for a few days and fly home. Re: Trial season is getting close
I'm planning on hitting the GSPC of NE FT the end of August to see if with a little luck we can qualify for the Nationals.
I'm also planning to take a day off my first hunting trip of the year to go to the Old Dominion Vizsla Club FT being held in near Towner, ND. About an hour or so from my hunting grounds.
Unless we end up qualifying and going to the Nationals the rest of the fall is spent hunting wild birds in the Dakotas and Minnesota.

My dog is going on the same road trip as Ultracarry's dog. She'll be back in November and hopefully have her open derby points. I'll be working on getting her amateur derby points at the local trials, and if she's ready, run some broke dog stakes. Will be doing alot of chukar and quail hunting while not trialing and just to add another thing to spend money on, might start her MH. I have a busy season planned.
Re: Trial season is getting close
It's kind of hard for me to think about trial season when it's 90+ degrees F and high humidity.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Re: Trial season is getting close
Should think about training in ca. Have never seen such nice weather in the summer. I roaded the dog for 45 minutes on Wednesday at 9:00 am and got on her good.. Didn't get over 65 and sunny. I'll road my dog up until 11 and then it gets to about 75 or 80 and I'm looking for a chair in the shade..
My dog prob wants a week off as she only has them when she comes into season and even then she gets bird work, but that's just fun not really work.

Yeah this little heat wave were having is no good for my thick blood. Went and worked my pup and helped a few others out today. Felt like a stinking locker room afterwards. But the dogs sure liked the water today. Radio station said possibly the worst heat wave in 10 years here I hope not.ezzy333 wrote:Kind of hard to think period with it this hot.Grange wrote:It's kind of hard for me to think about trial season when it's 90+ degrees F and high humidity.

Re: Trial season is getting close
Just two so far for certain...
AKC Pointer nationals at Wye Is this fall and the Virginia Am. All Age in the spring.
Well actually three. I volunteered to judge at a local AKC walking stake in the fall.
Might actually get off and walk a brace or two if there is something I can run a dog in.
Might save up my pennies and see if I can make it down to Hoffman this year. We shall see how the season unfolds.

Hope to hit my first CH up in Idaho, then some weekend stuff around home.
Re: Trial season is getting close
I am planning on being at most if not all the local weekend trials, Region 17 walking, and region 17 HB. Time, money and progress is really going to be the determining factor. Doesnt help that I am just getting my first year Sh Dogs broke since last summer was so darn hectic.
