Other passions in life?

Post by Dirtysteve » Thu Jul 21, 2011 9:14 am

What are the other passions in your life?
I have friends that are fishing nuts, that spend every waking hour fishing or talking about fishing. I like a good fishing trip but I am a big game hunting addict. If I had to choose big game hunting or hunting with my dogs I couldn't do it. The time I don't spend with my dogs I spend looking for deer or elk and sometimes I am doing both at once.
Here are a few pics. Sorry for the quality, alot are from my cellphone

Here's a buddy that I helped guide last year on his elk hunt and one of my cosuins elk

And the best for last.
My two boys first deer they have shot. They are now becoming quite the accomplished hunters themselves. Having shot elk and deer with me just sitting back and watching without having to give instructions

Yes that was an awesome hunt and would go back in a heartbeat to do another

as for taste it is one of my favorite meats puts angus meat to shame and better then Elk I was totally bummed that we each could only bring 50 lbs home.

PS Nice Elk and Mulies you have pictured there....Hopefully this year I will be able to get a nice Elk got drawn for muzzleloader elk. Last year I got drawn for any elk had a couple nice bulls in sight but I just don't have the 200-300 yd trajectories down with Bow then ones that were closer..since I had an any elk tag I wasn't going to shoot a young Bull not being snobby but they can't get big if you shoot them young so I did end my hunt with a nice big cow on the last day last light

My family and I use to race sprint cars. Don't have any pics cause I'm posting from my phone, but before my dad retired he had drivers such as: tony stewart, jason leffler, casey mears, jj yeley etc race his cars. It was fun, but very expensive. We raced dirt and asphalt, it was a great joy to wrench on my dads cars and meet all the awesome drivers that ran his cars!

Wow! Those are great pics! So cool.

In addition to being addicted to my bird dog I'm passionate about fighting. Love muay thai, boxing, mma you name it. If it's a combat sport I'm in. I've been doing martial arts since I was 4 and have been competing in the ring for about 5 years and hold 3 titles. So when I'm not training or fighting all I want to do is be with my GSP.

I wouldn't mess with her! Glad we're friends, though. Though, you didn't mention your other passion... Wine. Hehe

I would say for me my other passion is music. I've seen over 60 bands, one of which over 90 times.
Favorite artist would have to be The Grateful Dead... though I was born just a little too late to see them. :(

I would love t od oan elk hunt before I am too old. We ride motorcycles, been all over the place on them, got a camper I pull behind mine. We also boat, fish, raise farm animals, do boy scouts, buy and eat girl scout cookies yes it is a hobby. Take my boy to his school athletic stuff used to take my daughter but she is a college grad now with a whole lot of letters behind her name :) BSN/RN :) 2 years rthen back to school for her knock out title :) anethesiologist :) then we can target the boy and get hiom a good education and great paying job, then I will be able to retire. I will be about 70 then :)

I also fix old cars, make hot rods etc. I was a mechanic at one time (24 years) so I get roped into fixing stuff for others. Weld, paint just about anything can be done I do it. Hate to pay someone to do something I can do.

My daughter Grace is a daddies girl. She loves boating, camping, 4wheeler riding, and sometimes we even drag mom along. Her favorite word right now is "puppy".

Live music, 2-4 concerts a month.

I work on vehicles. Mostly diesels, and mostly fast trucks. In many cases FAR beyond the usual plug in or bolt on stuff.
I have English Pointers because they don't ever grow up either...

Most anything involving outdoors, along with motorcycles, baseball, dirt track racing, and found out today I was drawn for a Montana antelope tag, something else to add to the list.

Bowhunting is by far the other Passion. I have done a lot of homework and worked in an archery shop for almost three years while I was active duty air force. I would hunt almost every day in January even if I had filled ky tag I could always glass for my friends. I back country bowhunt. It's a lot more exciting when you have to pack in and out and the looks you get when you do. Desert mule deer in Arizona is really fun and have been pretty successful . I hunt wild pigs in ca when I get access . I just found out I got drawn for a AZ coues deer tag for Nov/Dec rifle.

Shooting Trap & Skeet. I really enjoy it.

I have only been doing it about 2 years, and Today I worked a trapshoot/campaign fundraiser for my friend, and State Representative Joe Seiwert. It was miserable hot, but it just so happend that the Govenor of Kansas, Sam Brownback came this evening and a few of us privileged folks (about a dozen of us) were able to shoot a "Knockout" with him. He is quite a good shooter. I ended up winning and here are some pics my wife was able to snap.

He met my wife and daughter and took photos with us. It was a really neat experience! He had his own secretary or publicist there taking photos. Can't wait to get the ones of me, my wife, and daughter Haley together with Gov. Brownback. :D

I also enjoy being actively involved in our Chruch. I usher, and help with VBS and such.

Football!!! and other sports i guess  lol i'm sure i'm not allowed to post pics but i've been involved in coaching for a little while now and i love it, theres just something about football that i cant get away from it. i just love it and seeing the kids flick that light bulb on and have success, it's an amazing feeling when you help em get there, theres nothing like the bond that comes through the miserable 2-a-days(i think they're worse now that i'm still out there and don't get to make contact with anyone lol) I also help out with the basketball and track teams so coaching and sports take up a lot of my time but its very gratifying!

I love fishing, am an avid fly tier and I coach and love to watch ice hockey. I'm a real rink rat and love working with the kids. I used to ref. but now just work the scorers table, sin bin(penelty box) or keep stats when not actually bench coaching. A kid on ice is never in hot water. Ofcouse, my real goal in hockey is to be the Zamboni driver.

Any kind of fishing, reading, painting and sculpture . When I was a teenager I made my own bow and arrows - flights the lot and bow hunted for small game. Then I discovered that bow hunting is illegal in Britain so that had to stop. I now hunt rabbits, rats, crows and woodpigeons with air rifles. I like the extra close stalking involved in getting a shot and figuring out the trajectory needed for such a tiny projectile.
