If you build it...

Not really gundog stuff but thought some folks might find the results of a little ranch project from a few years ago interesting.

That is really cool, even most of your trail cam pics are really good! Just curious about how long from when you put it in until you started noticing it being used?

All summer long we been close to water :) lol river is 10 miles wide and may slowly go back to its normal course, or not :)

Nice vids I like the shorthair vid too. You do good work with them cameras. What model of game camera did you use? Them pics are very sharp.

I especially like the pictures of you holding the hose and the underside of the first deer...classic!

Thanks all. I've been really happy with the guzzlers and plan to install one, maybe two more. I wish I had the bigger 8ft. units because these ones will typically run dry about this time with our average rainfall - this year they've still got some decent amounts in them but I'll probably run down and top them off. The 8ft. units were going to cost me more in shipping than they actually cost to purchase so had to go with the smaller ones. I have natural springs on the place that unfortunately pop out right next to the highway and used to be the only source of water for quite a distance - there was almost always a dead deer or two right there on a constant basis. We had a monster trophy buck get smacked right there several years ago. Anyway since we provided a water source up off the highway, I haven't seen a carcass on the frontage of my place at all - so feel good about that. Pretty much immediately after putting them in we had good "traffic" to them - I'm still holding out to capture my big three on the camera (a mountain lion, a wolf, and Bigfoot  ). My cam has only been on one of the guzzlers. I've got a second guzzler that is more out in the bird country and I have flushed and seen sharptails sitting right on it so I know they use it...at least to stand on!!

My camera is a Moultrie, can't remember the model - I know it takes a 5MP pic which works good for snapshot stuff. I'd like to find one that really takes captures a bit more "info" that I could make some nice prints - I think they'd make for some nice wall photos for the right room/setting.
