Anyone familiar with the upland, waterfowl, big game, and fishing around this area? An opportunity may allow my family to move to this area.

Its terrible here i wouldn't do it. 
For about $85 you can get your deer, elk, bear, fishing and upland bird licenses. Montana has great hunting all across the state. Tons of public land and access to private through MT block management program. While I haven't hunted birds up there Great Falls is supposed to have pretty good phesant hunting. Freezeout lake is just south of Conrad is a major waterfowl area. Good luck!
