Puppy Naming Contest

Post by RoostersMom » Fri Sep 30, 2011 4:00 pm

I'm having real trouble coming up with a good name for this GSP pup that didn't work out for my sister. Her name was Nova - you try shortening that one and not getting "No" or "Whoa" out of it.

I have a Gator, Rocks, Rooster, Piper, Goose... and a few others that hubby named. My next Vizsla's call name will be Pie. I'm just looking for a call name. Not worried about her registered name right now. She is a real pistol (and I even thought of Pistol - but when hubby shortened it, it just made me mad). She has quite a bit of range and is VERY birdy. If she had the right owner, she'd be competitive in walking field trials and NSTRA or NAVHDA.

Here's a few pics of her to help the process along.

A nice shiny new QF baseball cap and an Uplanders cap go to the one of you on here that comes up with a name I end up going with. I'd like to have one by mid week - so send in your thoughts prior to Tuesday at 10pm.

Honey. Shortened to "Hun" if you want, she's easy to look at!

Registered name could have XYZ's Sweeter than Honey in the name... lots of places you can go with the name Honey.

You can go with Paige or Phoebe (from the tv show Charmed) since you already have a Piper. Then you can go with that theme for the reg. name, like "The Charmed One" or something.

You should name the pup Bye. Seems to be a popular name though, there always seems to be at least one at every trial & hunt test

Great names guys. I'm going to leave this open until Tuesday evening and will pick one at that point. Hubby is starting to get into the "name" game as well and has a few suggestions that I'll post on Tuesday night!

How about "Sugar"? She looks like a real sweetie and her registered name could be something like Sweet Sensation or Sweet Serende.

Bella and kelly are easy to yell. I like the name rooster for a male dog and we had a mastiff we named gator. Moose is another fitting name due to her solid liver head if you think she's going to be a big dog. Our Deutsch Langhaar female is named that.
Anyways she's a nice looking pup. Very innocent look on her face on the picture by the wall.

You guys are great - lots of good suggestions out there. I liked many of them. The prize goes to Don F though, for his unique "Rooster's Wicked Sister" which the pup will be registered as this week. We toyed with calling her "Little Sis" since that is what Rooster Cogburn called Mattie Ross in the movie that our Rooster is named for.

However, during this process, my husband decided to become involved and would like to name the pup "Genny". This is short for Genesee Cream Ale, my hubbies favorite beverage. Since he is not as active with the birddogs as I am, I decided to let him name this one and if we keep her, he'll be working with her as we go through the hunt tests and possibly NAVHDA. Though with her wheels, she might be a candidate for field trials. I might start with a few walking stakes and see how she does.

Thanks much for all your suggestions.... there were several on here that really appealed to me - I liked Shatze but I hunt with a guy who already has one of those, and Kimber was cool, as was Elettra. My favorite if I had a male would be Link - that's a great one. I appreciate all the suggestions folks - and I do have in my possession a handful of free day passes to Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic in Kansas City in February. If you'd like a free pass, please send me a PM with your address and I'll pop one in the mail to you.

Don F gets the baseball caps - and I'll send him a free day pass to PFEST and Quail Classic as well.

What better way to represent a fine young german lady than with a german name.

My 3:

Giselle - Gisa for short.

Margeret - Greta for short.

I personally like Vala which means the "one chosen over all". Which will be good if she turns out to be something special.

Good luck, alot of good choices so far,

Joe
