Kona's first trial.

Post by jcbuttry8 » Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:45 pm

Well we finished our first trial. We placed 4th in the walking pup and spent alot of time checking out the cool horses in the open. Think we will stick witht he walking pup for a while. Here are some pics. Not bad for a 6 mos old going up against 12 to 14 mos olds. Our brace mate for the walking pup was a GSP of Jeff Grodin. Man what a beautiful dog. What a runner. And for the open a beautiful GSP from Bill Orlando. Some great dogs ran this weekend.

I think I have found my new home in trialing. Just a bunch of great people. Everyone willing to lend a hand. haven't seen anything like it since I left Oklahoma. So, to all of you that put up with my long list of questions and Kona's inexperience I thank you.

To all the winners this weekend, congrats. You definitely earned it.

Glad you had fun man! If you go to a weekend trial and are not having fun with the people and dogs, go find a different club. Most of the trials I go to are very social and the people are mostly all genuine. Good luck in the future and just take baby steps.

Congratulations!!

I'm new to trialing, too, and couldn't agree more that the people are really great!

Have fun with your pup.

Thank you to all. I am looking at a couple of AF trials at the end of the month. It looks like there are a few out towards harrisburg, PA. Couple of hours away. Not quite sure how you go about getting the premium on AF trials. Can anyone help me out on that?

I think I want to stay with walking trials for now. Then maybe try horseback again this next spring.

Find the ad for the trial in The Field or on The Field's website, and call in your entry to the contact person.

Don't forget to take the fdsb registration info with you to the trial - if you place you'll have to have it so the win can be recorded.

Good luck!

This is a trial that will be held down in South Jersey on some really nice grounds, they have walking stakes on Saturday and horseback on Sunday. Give Mike a call, great group of people that are very welcoming to new comers.

Mudhunter put you onto a good trial for a novice. I know most of the folks involved with that club and they are very good people. As I understand it they will be running their walking stakes on Saturday and the Horseback stakes on Sunday, as previously mentioned. It is in the Jersey Pine Barrens, so it is fairly flat and sandy. Good place to run a dog.

I have not personally been down to the Peaslee WMA field trial grounds, but I understand they are nicely laid out.

Thanks Joe for the props. The group of guy's at the Eastern GSP trial are a great bunch. There is a Walking Trial Nov. 4th & 5th at Flaherty in CT. East Windsor if you look it up. Most of who you met this weekend should be there. I believe the Bill Felins is running it. You can friend him on FaceBook. Most of us are up there too. Just another avenue for you to reach out to people. By the way..........................NIIICCCCE DOG!

Thanks for the help with the trials. Man I really wish I could make the 15th and 16th. So close but kona and I might need to find a new place to stay if I stand up mom. I will check on the others and may try to make it to CT. I will look at them all this week and start making plans.

It is funny how a pup reacts to these events. She was running 300 to 400 yds before the trial and then didn't make it out past even 100 yds saturday. So, had the time today and ran her. Wouldn't you know it, set her off with the wistle and watched her hit 400 without blinking an eye. She sure likes to run when we are alone. Just a little stage fright. We will get better.

Doc,
Thank you for all your help. Had alot of fun and sure liked watching your pups run. Great job.

Joe
