Ringworm?

Post by Moojoo » Mon Oct 03, 2011 8:20 pm

My GSP was outside most of the day today laying around in the grass. Tonight we noticed some red rings/spots on his belly. I'm wondering if it could be ringworm...

Any ideas? Should we get to a vet?

I agree with Brenda, could be fly, ant, or someother sting or bite. Watch them for a day or two.

It is hard to tell if there is an internal spot but the fact that there is a cluster of those lesions and they are round suggests fungus.

What ever it is a triple ointment or just Clotrimazole 1% Cream is a good idea.

Any chance these are tick bites? Bullseyes like that remind me of Lyme.

Both my dogs have gotten those spots before, after they'd been lounging out in the grass. It's never turned into anything, and goes away in a day or two. I suspect chiggers or some such other biting bug.

Looks like chiggars bites to me, ringwork is a yeast infection of sorts. Most cows have it, a simple mix of apple cider vinagar and water applied to it will clear up RW. but those look like chiggar bites, little critters live in the grass and eat yer ankles. Bites itch endlessly too.

I spray bug free back yard on my grass and trees, keeps critters like these away, also skeeters fleas ticks etc. Keeps the dogs varmint free all summer.

I think you may be right but I could never prove just what does cause them and since I didn't get chiggers in the short grass I wondered if that is what it really is. Maybe where we are mising info is the dogs may get them while running through the tall grass and we just see them later. That maybe makes sense but either way they don't appear to be anything to be concerned with so just watch and bet they are gone in a couple of days. They always have been on our dogs.

I appreciate the help. As it turns out most of the spots were faded the next morning, and all were completely gone by day 2. I'm guessing chigger bites...

He never seemed bothered by them.
