Next Purchase Decided!

Post by gr_elliott » Mon May 15, 2006 1:03 pm

I was not planning on buy an ecollar, I really saw no sense in buying one. Then I received and watched the video from Perfection Kennels, after seeing the "right" way to use the collar I was sold. Rowdy is still too young to use one on him, but I want to go ahead and buy it so that he can get use to wearing it when we go out in the field.

I decided on the Sportdog SD1800, has what I am looking for and a good range. One thing that I saw, and not sure I 100% believe, is that this thing is waterproof and can be submerged and still work. The way I read this, the dog can do water retrieves and not mess up the collar. Is this correct, or is it like the old watches that said water proof but as soon as they got wet they stopped working?

I don't have sportdog collars, but I put mine right it the sink filled with soapy water and wash them. Waterproof should mean waterproof.

They are sealed and water proof..
I have the sportdog and they have been in the water when my dogs have gone swimming and they work just fine...
the three brands we have used I have never had an issue with them being in water Sportdog tri tronics or the dt

Spend the money and buy the Tri Tronics. It's the last collar you will have to buy.

I agree about Tri Tronics, built like Fort Knox.

You won't go wrong with the sport dog collar. They build them solid and stand behind them.

I've used SportDog and Dogtra. Both are fine companies that put out quality equipment. I've not used TriTronics or DT but I've not heard anything bad about them on a large scale either. The only brand I will ever advise you to stay away from is Innotek, because people that actually like their Innotek equipment are few and far between (but they do exist). Your decision to go with the SportDog collar is a good one. Just remember that when asking questions about e-collars, people will defend their chosen brands like their chosen breeds. :D

To answer your question, though, yes. The SportDog receiver is waterPROOF. My dog swam across a river in January wearing his, and it works fine.

Sport Dog 1800 is a good choice. I have been impressed with the battery life on mine. Great collars.
