Cleaning Tips?
I have a Browning citori white satin hunter, steel receiver with a silver nitride finish. Every time I use the thing, whether steel or lead loads, it gets dark stains from the powder (I assume) on the receiver. Anybody got any secrets on how to get this off without ruining the finish? I've tried Hoppe's wax/silicone cleaning towels and Hoppe's lubricant and I can't seem to get it all to come off. I'm scared to put any solvent on it.

I use Rem Oil and it works well.

I really think you should be getting a better seal.
Take the gun back and it checked out.

I found that waxing the outside of the receiver keeps it really clean. Mushers Secret, the paw wax, works great on the whole gun, but i agree with the above somethings out of line. Is it both sides of the receiver?

Re: Cleaning Tips?
It's evident on both sides of the gun but usually a little worse on the left side. I've cleaned it twice now trying to get the black grime off and you can probably still see it on this picture. Now I'm wondering if it does have a bad seal to it. What would cause this? I just got the gun in September and fired maybe 300-400 rounds through it. I've got Browning's from the early 1900's that still are going strong!!

Is it on the bottom too? Ya know it looks like acid discoloration. Perhaps it is from your hand and not residue from shells.

Re: Cleaning Tips?
Yea it worst on the bottom half of the gun (both sides) than the upward half towards the barrels. I just wiped it down again before I took that picture so I don't know why it would discolor like that since it was wiped down? It just doesn't make sense to me for it to be doing this, and doesn't seem to be typical of a Browning. I don't want to send it in to Browning unless I have to, then I won't be able to use it this season!
