Dog bedding?

Post by codym » Thu Nov 10, 2011 5:29 pm

I was wondering what you all put in your dog houses for insulation during the winter? I usually just use straw but I was thinking about using wood shavings instead. Anyone have any experience?

Both wood shavings and straw produce alot of dust.....that said that's what everybody uses.

If you have access to some good clean native grass hay or switchgrass that seems to work better IMHO.
I have been using switch grass to good results , for a couple years now. Seems to hold up well.

I have found that grass hay works best for me.

Right now as pricey as the grass hay is around here all I have will be going in my horses feeder! I think im goin to give the wood shaving a try.

I found wood shavings stick to the coat and then drops in the run.

I use or straw or feed hay. The straw around here is either oat of wheat. It seems pretty clean. I likethe feed hay as it seems pretty clean and smells good still. I do no think the wood shaving offer much insulation value as straw.

Cedar makes them smell mighty nice.

I use cedar chips, it smells good on the dogs and is a natural insect repellant. it is messy though.
