Hunts & Trials

Post by tn red » Fri Nov 18, 2011 7:18 pm

All the bickering is getting old,we need a good picture thread. Its hard for most folks to argue over a good looking dog weather its a hunting, trial or test dog.
Lets see what kinda dog you like & what kinda country you're hunting.
Here are some of mine

I really don't have many hunting photos, wish I had taken some over the years as I lost my long time hunting buddy to cancer last year and wish I had photos.I do have photos of the best dog I have ever owned,my wife went with me hunting and took some photos, not sure how to get them on here though.

The fire is quite a ways out from me, I now live N. of Reno about 30 miles. My inlaws live in the same neighborhood that they lost a few houses but all is well with them now.

Thanks for asking.

Here are a couple more of that dog in his first year...

My dogs have to be able to do it all, as far as birds are concerned.

1st duck retrieve, Oct.23
IMAG0134.jpg
Hunt from this morning, starting to feel like a seasoned veteran, if he only knew how much more he has to learn. It was killing him to sit still, there were birds still landing in the decoys as pic was being taken, made for a good pose.
IMAG0206.jpg
While going to retrieve a hun, he came to a halt as he found another bird 25 yards from the rest of the group, body posture was so different from normal I had to get a pic.

This is going to be a verbal & imagine in your mind pic as it was before digital cameras & unfortunately I have no pic.First you have to imagine a fallen down outbuilding only the aframe section of the roof standing the ridge about 8 ft high.My buddy that was with me says hey Ted come here your dog is on the roof,so I walk over sure enough there she stands on point on the ridge,he says what she doing I said shes on point he said what can she be pointing I climbed up looked in & there were about 4 quail standing inside on the cross brace to the rafters. That same dog also pointed with a bird in her mouth while making a retrieve.

I'd give about anything to have those two pics but cameras to big & clumsy in those days.

Well I have yet to have any pics of my little one out hunting, but I have been working her on pigeons for the last month and was starting to believe there wasn't even a bulb. She just would not point to save her life. If she winded it she went for it. I had hoped by 7 mos she would have started. So, last thursday took her out and she locked right up. So went back out today with the cam and this is what I was able to get. I think the bulb has turned on.

Here is some of my winter hunting area. One of my dogs (Buster)if very good at finding the Ruffs in the trees, If we bump a bird or I flush it and don't get the shot or miss he is the one that usually pinpoints the bird in the trees If it took off from the ground 90% of the time they will be in the trees. He is very effecient. but not stylish. I have seen him do a couple things. If he is at distance he will point looking in the tree, (most will), If I can not find the bird and relocate Buster he will go to the specific tree and either put his front paws up on the trunk or he will sit looking up. He has a short neck so sitting must be more comfortable.
Image
This was the are we found the birds friday. The coyotes have been harrassing the hares and Ruffs a lot, judging from the tracks along the way.
Image
Got some decent sunsets here too.
Image
Mercy and Buster after the hunt at home, they worked together pointing and relocating to get these birds and the shooting was on target today.
Image
The best part of training is seeing the light come on in your little prot'eg'e.

Rick
