Snow is on the ground....

Post by Elkhunter » Sat Nov 19, 2011 1:54 pm

Took the mutts out today to look for some elusive chukars, we knew we were close..

First find of the day, the covey was off the edge about 20 yards.

Second find, but they were on the move and he relocated and pinned them in some Cedars

Third and final find of the day

The sad and embarrassing part was we shot about 18-20 shots total and killed ZERO birds. They would come up, you would be sliding/falling and then I think I would just flock shoot at that point! :) Fun day, great dog work, horrible shooting. But still a fun time.

It's fun just to get out even if your shooting is not the best... Those pointers are hard to see in the snow! Great pics!

There was some cussing afterwards, each of us blaming the other one. It was some brutal conditions, steep with snow covered rocks. And I cant stress how hard it is to find a white dog on point, in the snow.

Great pics, Elk. That is the best thing about these dogs at the end of the day they will still give you a kiss for a treat. I have been trying to get my wife to spend more time with Kona. Don't know that it will rub off, but you can't blame me for trying. I don't mind you putting the gun up and sending more pics.

Josh I was out today also and I have found that if you go to Cabela's and buy one of there cheap orange dog vests they sure help in the snow. They are very light and don't overheat the dogs but usually don't last more than 2 seasons due to ripping. How were the target shooters on that end today? Loads of them like usual?

Not bad, it was pretty wet and cold so I think they all stayed home!

Nice pictures Doug, my buddies from work always get mad at me cause they say I am more worried about taking the "best" picture than I am about shooting. But I have realized I am better at pictures that with a gun.... :)
