I don't really want anything else either...

If I wound up somewhere else and waterfowl hunting a lot I would probably wind up with a Chessie.
I have English Pointers because they don't ever grow up either...

I am probably going to get a Boykin eventually. Just have to reconcile myself with long hair and HRC events.

im sure my future holds at least a few more GSPs and I believe I will be looking for a Big running horse back EP in the next couple of years, but at the top of my dog wish list is a field bred springer,,,,,,,

Having to much fun with my trial pointer. I see a few more in my future. Having so much fun I am bringing her litter mate up for a buddy of mine in OK to trial next season. I am looking at two more if not three pointers in the future. Just have to get mom on board. That seems to be the biggest hill to climb.

Good luck with your lists.

As many of you will remember (or can guess from my username) I'm a first time dog owner and after having my GWP for the last 3 - 4 months I couldn't imagine having anything but GWPS. I'm guessing a lot of people have similar feelings about their first breed. :D On a side note, I took my pup (6months) out pheasant hunting yesterday and came home a proud dad! It was the first hunt that it was very obvious that he was actually hunting for something, he quartered naturally across 8 hunters (easily spaced out 100 yards at times) and he found, and pointed (for about 4 seconds before busting it) his first pheasant! He was going hard from about 11AM until 330PM. It was really fun seeing him do his thing out there! Not sure if this is even impressive for some of you experienced trainers and owners but for me it was real exciting!

Planned wish list

1 male purchased & out with a FT pro by the end of next year
1 deposit on a female pup or planned breeding by Sept of next year
1 ton of commitment/work invested in the current dog to complete 2 major titles

Now do you want my dear Santa list also to help complete my doggie wish list?????

Experienced or not. Don't worry about what others think. That pup will soon learn on those birds it won't catch them and will hold that point longer. Sounds like one heck of a first outing. That pup shows alot of natural talent and will be a good huntin' buddy for years to come. Just keep working and the results will soon come. Keep having fun. Great dog!!

I have had several breeds over the years and can say I am the happiest with this pointer. They all had there moments but I don't think I will stray far from this line in the future. You will never be wrong going with what you enjoy and love.

Good Luck,

Joe

Von,

I wish that was enough. My daughter seems to be riding her pretty hard. I think I will be able to pull it off but I might need to find a place to put up a small Kennel. We already have three at the house. The two who think they deserve a meal every time they let you pet them and the wild child. Don't think I can put anymore here. She is fine with whatever I decide as long as they reside somewhere else.

Thanks Joe! I wish the pheasant population was better this year in MN so he could get the opportunity to find more birds, but it has been really fun despite that fact.

Well, lets see.....I currently have a GSP, and DD and a wirehair in the household. I am plenty good with 3 dogs. I have found that i really enjoy the Versatile dogs. When the GSP has to retire in a few more years it will probably be replaced by either another DD or a pudelpointer..
But if i had all the time and room in the world here are a few breeds i would like to try..
Boykins spaniel
English cocker spaniel
Pudelpointer
french brittany

dognubie, don't shoot those birds she put's up. You will teach her to flush birds and in time she'll be out of shotgun range.

Wish list.

I have all I want right now but I did screw up. Squirt and Bodie are the same age. I could lose them both at the same time. I had intended on one for me and one for my son, but, his wife nixed it after I'd already bought both. Ideally I like to have a coupld dogs about 3 or 4 yrs apart. When the oldest get's to 8 yrs or so, then I'd start another pup. I like hunting two at a time and have hunted three at a time quite a bit. If I had to many dog's, some would be getting the short stick.

No, you don't. As of Dec. 1 - 10 days from now - Boykins can run AKC retriever hunt tests. They've been running AKC spaniel tests for 3-4 years now, and down the road look for them to make their way into AKC spaniel field trials, too.

As for the long hair, it ain't that long to begin with and ain't that much of it

that comes with a 23-pound dog.

Really? Cool. That may jumpstart the AKC Retriever Tests here. They are really neat little dogs and I seem to be surrounded by them.

Thank you - a companionable canine creature if ever there was one.

Casey, good luck finding a Boykin and if you're surrounded by them, the odds are in your favor.

Surprised to hear that AKC retriever tests lag in OK, since it's well known as field trial country - retriever FT country - and they've held the national at Ardmore a couple of times as I recall. And a lot of retrieverites are happy playing both.

Already have a GSP, would also like:
1. Small Munsterlander
2. Chessie
3. English Setter

No particular reason, just like those dogs.

Have to say... another GSP, but waiting for the wife's 17 yr old dog to kick the bucket.... ill surprise her with a cute GSP puppy for early or late birthday present just like she did to me with my dog. Having too much fun with this one!

If you trial or test you might as well bring two for the trip.

Next I would say this dog (SNIP'S COWBOY WAY)

I would like a cocker... (owned by jhorak)

Last this is a Lab that I owned, now he belongs to my buddy and I wish I still had him.

any more. However I might be able to find room for one of these.

Hey Acooper, after looking at those first two pictures, might have a hard time duplicating. Kinda like looking for a replacement for Sandy Koufax or Nolan Ryan.

At the top of my wish list is finding out if my rescued EP was ever registered and getting the papers or getting him registered, so I can run him in some trials. It's a long shot, but I do have one angle to work...

Sorry Coop, that one's not for sale :)

My wish list is short. More Cockers!

In the future, if I ever live in an area that has a little more room for a dog to run, I'd like a pointer of sorts. Maybe a Gordon Setter? I think I'd get along better with a Setter than with any of the other pointing breeds.

More kennel space and a Dyson vacuum?

We're up to 5 birddogs, to go with the two chessies and the four beagles. I promised hubby to keep it at or under 10... but the little GSP pup has wormed her way into the house and right now is warming my toes in front of the fireplace. Don't think I'll ever go for any of the furrier breeds, I like the GSP's, EP's and Vizslas. The shorter haired breeds are appealing to me (though just as messy to vacuum as the longer hair!).

If I added just one more, I'd have to find a new wife. We have 4 GSP's, an English and Llew. Setter. A Large Munsterlander and an EP pup an of course hr Toy Rat terrier. A GLP would be a longshot wish.

A year from now we plan on having a litter out of Ranger and Ruby. She jsut got done with her first heat. Going to wait for the 3rd. If it happens I have 4 pups already spoken for maybe 5.
