BBQ in the Desert

Post by Willie Hunter » Sat Jan 07, 2012 6:42 pm

We finished our chukar hunt today with BBQ'd elk burgers and bighorn sheep sausage. What a great way to end a good hunt. It was cold and windy in the desert, the hunting was pretty good.

Just a bit wore out, this was some steep "bleep"!

I agree with that. Never had an elk burger. Heard they're awesome. Be careful with that fire in the desert.

Point well taken. We put the coals out with water and also dig a hole and bury them.

That's how topher40 and myself do it when we go to SD in the summer. We stay in the horse trailer and cook everything on site. It's the most fun you can have running dogs I think.

Very nice.

Nice point by your dog, too, on photo #3. I hope he got a taste of that elk burger...

Nothing better than times like that one. Hate to see the season end, I'm sure.

That is not my dog. This one however is the one that got to spend the night in the desert last weekend due to trying to catch a herd of deer, thankfully it all worked out. This youngster did find and point a limit of chukar for the owner yesterday. We did make sure our dogs got a treat from the BBQ also.

I picked up a new Weber propane portable grill today. After giving more thought to hot coals in the dry desert I felt it was not a good idea using charcoal.
