How many nest boxes do I need?

Hello,

I'm helping a friend build a pigeon coop this weekend and we were wondering how many nest boxes we need? One per bird? or one per pair? Thanks!

If youhave 12 birds, I would build 4 boxes. I don't want them all nesting.

If more than four decide to nest, they just make their own where ever they want, even on the floor. I think the way to stop that is to seperate the males and females.

Haven't had that problem yet. Maybe it's because I have a mixture of birds in there. Chukar, Qail and homers.

So if they are going to nest wherever they want, do I really need the boxes?
