Garmin Astro 220 Screen repair
Garmin Astro 220 Screen repair
I cracked the screen on my Garmin today working dogs. Does anyone know if there is a way to get a replacement screen and install it outside of sending the unit to Garmin for service at $150 rate? This should be a $20 or less fix not $150 bucks.

A shot in the dark for sure, but you migh check with any of the places that repair cell phone screens and such. Or, call up collar clinic or even Garmin and see if you can buy a screen, if you haven't done so already. If you get one, dig out your screwdriver and go to town.
I know it stinks, but I'd either live with the crack or pay the $150 to keep from potentially jacking up a high dollar piece of equipment.

Wow you are right, very rare to find a replacement screen.
This is the only one I found, and it appears it it shipped from HK... I dunno if I would trust it, but they can be had.

The Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX is basically the same handheld with different firmware under the covers. If you can find the screen for one of those (generally they sold more of them) then you might be able to get a "deal."
Bummer screen broke though.
PS: The 60CSX is a commonly used GPS for sailors, and small boaters that venture out into bigger waters. They work well for basic handheld navigation using the additional memory card... Anyway, so more of that unit were sold.

I've bought a lot of stuff from HK off ebay with no problem, the funny thing is they can ship it from there at faster and cheaper this most retailers in the US do. Just check to see if they will ship it to you and at what cost.SHNOOL wrote:Wow you are right, very rare to find a replacement screen.

So $112 for the ebay screen delivered and you fix it yourself, or $150 for Garmin to fix? I think I'd go with Garmin for the extra $38.
How'd you break the screen?

Had it hooked to my belt and fell going across a muddy field
Re: Garmin Astro 220 Screen repair
Sorry I am with Karen on this one... spend the $38 more and have Garmin guarantee it fixed right.
Unless you can find the screen for say $50, it's probably worth the $150 to have someone else deal with it.
Big bummer on the broken screen.
