bare paws in the snow
Got the first good snow of the year last night and want to still work my 6 month old pup as normal. She loves the snow and I bet she would stay out in it all day if I let her. The question is is should a get her some boots if she is going to be out in the weather for a couple of hours or will she be fine. I see no signs of her paws getting cold or that she is having any issues in the snow. But I have not let her out in it for more then a half hour.

Better safe than sorry.... Lewis dog boots.

And a scarf! I've never had foot trouble running a dog in snow. If it's really ice, that might be different.
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

I use a pink blanket on mine but she does have a alpaca scarf (hers) she runs around with from time to time but it usually stays in her crate.
Snow with a hard cap is different than powder. Just depends in the weather the next day. That's why I said better safe than sorry.

Coming from a place that gets some snow, I would say no boots are needed.
Go out, have fun. Dogs love snow.

Not crustysnow-wet heave. I did nor think ir would be a issue just wanted some feed back. Thank for the input

No need for boots, unless planning on using them in future. Good age to get him or her used to them.
Re: bare paws in the snow
The only problem with snow is that if the conditions are right it will ball up on the hair between the toes. I try to trim all of that out which helps a lot. As far as the cold it is not a problem. An awful lot of dogs live in the snow and have never heard of a boot.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Don't use boots but there's some stuff called "Musher's Secret" that I use if it's wet snow that collects on the feet. Works pretty good.

Re: bare paws in the snow
The pup will be just fine, we have snow on the ground here 5 months out of the year and 99% of them have nothing on their paws and they are just fine. I wouldn't think about putting anything on their feet unless a problem arises.

Exactly . My 3 love the winter here . They get the occasional ice ball in their pad. They just chew it out or I help them. No need to "baby" a dog.bluestemkennels wrote:Coming from a place that gets some snow, I would say no boots are needed.
