New Brittany

Post by osogrande » Fri Apr 06, 2012 8:37 am

Picked up a new Brittany the other day - Masked Jack of Diamonds/Tequila Joker. Retrieving like crazy haven't worked much on pointing but hoping for a great new hunting buddy.

Looking good. Don't overdo the retrieving. 1 or 2 a day is good for now... that is, 1 or two retrieves, not sessions. Of course I overdid my pup and then had to train retrieve... now that is all he ever wants to do.

Yes lovely pup. Don't retrieve too much with a dog that young. Hard repetitive work is not good for those young joints. Feed him well too, a few dollars extra a month is worth it in the long run.

Good looking pup ! Overtraining can be worse than no training or very little training.
+2 on 2 retrieves every second day ! Stop when the pup wants more ..... Leave them wanting more !

I can't really tell from the pics but does that pup have a dirty lip? Very good looking pup.

On a side note, I would play fetch as much as the puppy wants and just plan on force breaking him later.

Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

Not sure if he will hunt but he's pretty good at watching a fishing pole.
