Roosted turkey roasted?

Post by isonychia » Fri Apr 13, 2012 9:56 pm

Roosted a turkey tonight on some public land... tomorrow is supposed to be snowy, really the best for opening day. Lets hope everyone else decides to sleep in. Here is for waking up at 3am and NOT getting eatin by a cougar or shot by another hunter.

Don't roast your tukey before his is roosted, called in, and shot! :P

Good Luck, though!

Well you know what they say about a roosted turkey... I ended up parking too far away, only heard one gobble as compared to last nights cacophonous ensemble. Lets see what happens with the next 6 weeks.

I have never had any luck right off the roost I always end up to close or too far away. Last year they would fly down and go the other way. Mountain birds are tough, keep after them! Good luck.

Its all public, its the area right next to the rio grande. Most were right by the area that burned next to the boys ranch. Same vicinity as the field trials used to be held at. I would see them on the way to the duck blinds. When we used to float the river for ducks we could hear them running on the fallen leaves. Also the town of manzano east of belen is another hotspot. I have a bunch of local buddies i can call and get the scoop from if you're gonna come up.
