You give me your opinion on anything:
Training
Hunting in the back yard
In the house
Whatever...(pros/cons, strengths/weaknesses)

I know its not really relevant, but in my opinion they are the most beautiful breed on the planet.

Training- Awesome
Hunting-Awesome
In the house-Awesome/wild
Haha did I say they're awesome? I love mine so much personality in these dogs you won't be disappointed one minute youll be rolling laughing cause they're goofy then the next your stunned at how bad A they look pointing. I have a black and white ticked one love him. Smart as a whip and very eager to please. You won't go wrong buying one but if it's an inside dog you better be active and have some time because they are very energetic.

Mine is very intelligent and does well in the house. I will say he is not very playful with children. He seems a little wary with kids now don,t get me wrong he hasn't tried to bite or anything. Over all a great breed.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

I have three and they are all especially playful and lovable around kids.

When it comes to my current GSP he has the best temperment of any dog I have ever owned. My first one was great also . He is also like so many others have mentioned smart, goofy , great personality . I have to say enjoyable to be around.

Like all breeds there can be vast differences within them depending on many factors such as bloodline, etc..

I think most importantly they are what you make them or allow them to be.

Haha well I guess it all depends on how well I can train myself to train him. He must first be and obedient house dog. On the hunting side of things I'm really trying to figure it out. I think I want him to be a good shed antler dog and retriever. Then also be able to point some quail and rabbits which ever we find that day, after deer season closes. I've ordered antler ridges shed dog traing DVD and the 10 minute retriever. The lady with antler ridge said its a fairly simple cross to get a dog that shed hunts to run blood trails so that's a thought as well. She advised me, if I want a good shed dog not to introduce birds or fur to him before he is good and excited about sheds. She says birdy dogs are much harder to train and it will be much easier to get him doing the more natural things( birds) once the least natural things are down ( sheds). Please give any thoughts on this as well...
She also said they had a GSP that would shed hunt, track shot deer, upland hunt, and sitin a duck blind and retrieve..

Only one of my German shorthairs likes kids. That's because the first one he met had a milkshake which the kid dropped. Can't imagine where the rest of them got the dislike from.

Better eat your wheaties!!!! This is my frst dog and she is nothing but energy! Wasnt bad when she was only a couple months old, the routine was play, sleep, play and now it is just play, play play. But I love her personality and with lots of attention and training, an all around awsome dog. Good luck.

Great hunter, fairly easy to train and the only problem they have as a house dog is the reason they are called a shorthair pointer: their hair never has a chance to grow they shed it so fast and so much :D White hair on everything.

Told you to call me... Could have told you all of this in one call. If you have this many posts on GSPs in this period of time, you will love the breed more than you could imagine. Get one for sure if you think you are up to their speed.

For twenty eight yrs I had companion/hunting Labradors. I now own a GSP. What a fun dog. Personality plus. Exceptional in the house and yard. Excellent nose, very biddable, outstanding range and energy while afield, retrieves to hand and had a heck of a point on some trailside California Quail tonight. The downside is probably weather resistance. Although I've had my boy hunting Chukars in -11F degrees without a hitch. As long as their moving in the cold they stay greased

Do any of your GSP"s play frisbee? Thought this would be a fun and easy way to burn some energy...

Get a ball chunker. You will tear your arm up throwing a frisbee that many times and you can throw a tennis ball much farther with one of those things. If you have water near and it is not too cool make them retrieve as far as possible on swim. Better for joints and more difficult. They are built to outrun anything. Great chukar pic.

Mine loves kids. She is rough with me but is very careful around my brothers kids. They all sleep on thier back and on the couch though.

Her mother is always a problem... I should kick her off the counter for being a bad example.
