Gun Dog Forum

Sounds like a lot of folks on here keep their hunting dogs in the house. Are there any household type items that could inadvertently cause damage to a dogs scent receptors? I know my nostrils always burn after cleaning the shower with that toxic stuff if I don't wear a mask... Of course, I don't take the dog in there, but I'm sure with their sensitive noses, just about everything in a house seems overpowering????

any experiences or stories?

I see you have a GSP........................ them shorthairs can fart and lay in it and not even wake up from their nap................. of course anyone within a 3 room radius is close to barfing.................. my guess is........... not much bothers them............

If that is the case, I need to start hunting with my boxer!! She can pass gas while sleeping on the floor, wakes up looks around and then gets up and goes in the other room. It almost always ends with my wife walking through and gagging while making a bee line for the bathroom. I sit here and just giggle. It never gets old. You don't need a tv when you have a deaf boxer in the house with a horrible gas problem.

I often wonder that as well, especially with those that chain smoke in their houses. You'd think it would have to damage the dog's nose.

Um, actually not. But I'll have to check him out. I'm on the east side. This little guy came from Idaho. two dogs in the litter had pretty slick coats, two normal wirehair, and one or two really shaggy....

Cascade Steamer was a slick coated wirehair,there was another one too but I can't remember the name,Fellow here with a hunt club had that stock and would quite frequently end up with a couple in every litter that you'd swear was a GSP.
