Place for dog to run in southwest Virginia

Post by tahi193 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:34 am

Hi guys! Does anyone know of a place in southwest Virgina that would be safe enough and big enough to let a 1 year old setter run? I would even be willing to pay for the use of the land. I'm moving there for a couple of years and trying to make plans for my dog. I don't think the local dog park is going to cut it. Thanks!

making the move for School?

Where abouts in SWV?

Not a lot of public land, best shot is to find a local land owner that may let you hunt and just run on those grounds.

Yeah I'm moving up to the Roanoke area for graduate school! It's only for two years and my parents will most likely keep my dog most of the time since they're much better equipped. I just haven't given up hope of cobbling together a way to keep her with me. I wouldn't need to hunt on the land, just let her run some of that setter energy off. :)

I don't think most people would distinguish between the two, but I could be wrong.

the Jefferson Nat. Forest is not that for north, so that could be an option.

There's a ton of National Forest around you within 30 mins or so..

I thought about national forest land. I'm a single woman so not crazy about the idea of wandering around in a national forest alone. But I might meet some other people with dogs so it's a good point. Thanks guys!

Glock 27 worn on the hip will take care of most problems. Make sure it can be seen..

might not be the best idea for you then. but I think your best bet would be to try private land owners.
