Need help with new pigeon trap.

Post by Onk » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:35 pm

Got a new pigeon trap and the birds won't come near it. Started it on the ground until coons started moving it and eating the food. Now attached 1x4 perches on each end kind of like gang planks and elavated it up to the over hang, it is solid not swinging in the breeze. There are about 100 pigeons where I have this trap and I am at a loss. I have heard of blocking the bobs up for a day or two letting them free feed and come and go as they please, will this work? Never had this problem with my regular ole live trap, only problem was once it was sprung I always only had one or two birds and no more could enter. Thanks for your help!

Get rid of the coons, put the bobs down, and put 95% of the feed in the trap. Hungry birds will walk through bobs or even heck to eat a good meal. Try a board on the floor of the trap, something white that the birds can see the feed easily. I have always used a bathroom board type of paneling or have painted 1x4's white.

Go on craigslist or otherwise procure a pigeon and put it in the trap. If there are other pigeons in the area they will see that one eating away in the trap and they wont be able to resist. Good luck.

I did what topher said and place a bottom in the cage and also changed the feed I was using this after noon. At the last distant drive bye I am happy to report there were several pigeons on the cage and up to 10 or so around it on the ground. None inside the cage yet but it is looking up. Thanks for the help!
