Irish Setters
Irish Setters
What are some of the baddest setters on the circuit today? I'll do my own research and asking around as I know this is a broad question, but thought you guys could give me a few names to look up.

Prefix of Brophy, pros Tim Hidalgo and Ray Dohse. National is in Booneville, AR, in October.

Are you including FDSB Irish Setters or only AKC Irish Setters?

Re: Irish Setters
I could be wrong but knowing Lantz I would bet only Red Setters. He will correct me if I am wrong.Red Delicious wrote:Are you including FDSB Irish Setters or only AKC Irish Setters?

Re: Irish Setters
I know Tim. He lives out here over at Hardesty about 20 miles from where I work in Guymon. Been to his place a few times. I was going to breed my female setter at the time to his personal English Setter male. It has been a couple years since I have been over to his place. Last time I talked to him he told me he was only going to be training for people and not breeding or raising pups anymore. I am not sure if he ever carried through with it or not but took me out and showed me his, then, new kennel and barn that had about 50 client dogs and told me all the owners made 6 figures a year so he could make more money training than breeding and selling pups. He would still be the guy to call and talk to though. Kind of abrasive but a real nice guy. I guess the abrasiveness is why I get along with him.Cajun Casey wrote:Prefix of Brophy, pros Tim Hidalgo and Ray Dohse. National is in Booneville, AR, in October.

I am a english pointer man through and through, but I am going to try a FDSB red setter at some point. I will contact Tim Hammons in Kentucky when I am ready.

Re: Irish Setters
FDSB Res setter I would go with Come Back setters in Rose Hill NC. That is where I would look.
I'd rather live on the side of a mountain, than wander through canyons of concrete and steel.

Re: Irish Setters
Best Irish field trialers IMHO
Roger Boser (Bearcat Kennel)
Joe Edwards (Comeback Kennel)
Tim Hammons (Sliver Creek Kennel)
Don Beauchamp (Pine Hollow Kennel)
Paul Ober (Celtic Kennels)
Based on my looking at club records and the American field. I don't think Paul is activly trialing but his dogs are still being run.
Just my thoughts
