As a spin off from the other thread on dogs' looks, what is your favorite breed, line or type of dog from strictly a visual perspective? That could mean either the way they point, the way they work or anything. Feel free to post as many photos as you like.

For me, nothing tops a Setter. Since the day I first got involved in birddogs I've always thought Setters were the most regal breed around. Pointers rank up there, but not like Setters. Maybe it comes from watching Hunting With Hank when I was a teenager. I also prefer a white coat. Not really an entirely white dog, but a dog with a good bit of white on them, at least half their coloring. Something else is that I'm not crazy about a 12 o'clock tail. Really prefer about an 11 o'clock angle.

Wyndancer, from this board, has some of the best looking dogs around I think. At least from what you can tell in the photos.

I really like the looks of the Irish Wolf Hound plus you can saddle them up for a small child to ride around.

I think I just love the look of all bird dogs when they are working, I of course love the way my GSP looks (just in case he is a member on here and I don't know it ), but if you twist my arm, I would have say setters as well. I think it is safe to say that once we move and I take on another dog, a Llewellin is in my future.

Gotta be a toss up between a coursing whippet and any good coonhound on tree.

It's a tossup, either my own or a Clumber....plenty of time to look at a Clumber.

That, for me is an easy one.

A friend of mine has had some gorgeous looking dual registered Irish Setters. I cannot find a picture at the moment, but one was Speedy Edie O'Floin. It don't get better than that for me and I am a dyed in the wool pointer person.

Stoneface....only the top one is mine. One of the dogs in the bottom set goes back through on of our dogs.

Few things beat a Weimeraner, a Setter, a pointing Brittany or, a hardy Labrador!

I also love Curly Coated Retrievers, black Giant Schnauzers, and I second Irish Wolfhounds!

I love a puppy from just about any breed, Labs, Setters & Pointers... and any staunch dog on point... but I really like to see a gentle old gray faced dog with lots of feathers in it's past...

IMO the top one is the best looking dog!

John Markham has a V that is really a looker. I didn't see her point, just run, but she was nice to look at. A light dog that looked like she keep it in high gear forever.

I found a photo of a Speedy Eddie daughter.

GSPs and Labs are beautiful creatures. But like stated above, hard to beat an Irish Setter as far as looks are concerned.

A nice vizsla in running condition IMO is the most beautiful.

There are lots of good looking dogs, But at least for me, the setters are in a class of their own.

Gordons, man are they great looking dogs,
Irish / Red, that red coat is second to none.
English / Llewelins, they look great in the field and you can see them in any cover but snow.
When I think of upland hunting with bird dogs, I am thinking Setters.

I really think it is almost impossible for me to call one out as easiest to look at, that being said I really enjoy almost all bird dogs, dobermans, boxers, great danes...Dang, almost all dogs, but if I had to narrow it to 3 it would be GSP, Doberman, and a brown ESS with the hair trimmed....

I like all bird dogs, really hard to decide. The differences within the breeds can be huge in its own. If I was to choose 3 breeds it would be (1) brittany, the breed I grew up with and still have a huge soft spot for, (2) labrador, preferably chocolate, (3) a tall muscular GSP, 1 particular from a NAVHDA test last Oct. comes to mind. The more I hunt with my griff, the more I realize how great of a looking dog he is, the first time I saw a solid frozen beard I was hooked.

I like to see a crackling tail when running. And a dog with a high head on point. Unless the dog just hit the brakes and spun around like the Gsp above in the first picture Don F posted. I love that shot. I see the intensity, that is style IMO.
Looks i prefer a tri-color setter and it doesent need to be at high noon.9 To 11 is fine. Sickle is ok. But it needs to be fast with lots of tail action. The name cracklin tailspeed sold me even before seeing the dogs run.

On my pointers i prefer a dog as close to pure white as possible, non sickle tail at 11-12 also standing tall with nose to the sky!!

There are so many pictures of easy to look at pointers that I won't bother posting any, but I can look at them all day.

A Miller bred English Pointer.

For me GSP puppies or adult, love good looking blockheaded labs! Britt pups will melt me too, but dont care to take one home, sorry Britt guys. Honestly I love all of the hunting or sporting breeds they are all beautiful in the own characteristics. Love the feathers on gordens and all the setters, high noon tails on EPs! But them GSP pups will stop me in my tracks!

While I own, run and love GWP's, it's hard to beat a pretty setter running and on point! Or any long tailed beast that uses that tail while running. Our short tailed dogs are at a distinct disadvantage sometimes.

Hmmmmmmmm,does a dog have to have a long tail in order to see if it has a busy tail.A short tail dog with a busy ticking tail,would it not be the same as a whipping,or cracking tail if it were long??

Great dogs Oscar. Whole lot of Miller breeding there. Is that some Lancelot on the black nosed one? I would love to see some peigrees.

Vonzepplin yes the nub counts but it gets hard to see once the dog moves out. I am one to leave 40% on my Gsp pups.

Yeah...that's along the lines of this. "Hey, that level tailed GSP?...if'n he was a long tail, he'd look like limp noodle on point."

who knows what a docked tailed dog would do if it had a long tail? We hope it would be crackin', but who knows? In Europe many of the continentals have undocked tails now. Photos I've seen (and only in photos) they look heavy, so I don't know.

I just know that when watching those long tailed devils here..... and when they are doing it right....it's pretty! I don't want one, but it's fun to watch

I think there is a brit,gsh and a gwh out there also ;hahahaha

I enjoy the looks of my Deutsch Langhaars...




I'm also partial to the setter breeds and Deutsch Drahthaars. Something about a tight-coated dog with a good beard is appealing as well as the long haired, long tailed breeds.

I prefer dish water blonds over 50 that have a lot of money and love house work. Of course the lack of tail is a neg. I did have to shave the feather's off the legs of the last one!

This one is my favorite...

OK , I may have a new breed on my hands.

A Llewellin Elk Setter This guy came out of a draw that Indy was pointing in. Got a beep on the garmin and headed over there. On the way a tree started shaking, so I ran over there and called Indy. This elk came out the other side with some of the tree



Had Ace point so we could work on Indy standing after the flush when he is backing. Still got some work to do there.

Weimaraner--best looking all around
field bred English Setter--prettiest on point
brittany--best looking run
GWP--cutest pups (tho weims and english bulldogs are "bleep" close)

That could take the place of the doberman on my list... The coat style and beard style is perfect to my likings, and the dog seems to be in proportionally perfect. Great looking dog!
