GDM article "Nothing Missing"

Post by prairiefirepointers » Mon Jul 02, 2012 10:57 am

Has anyone else read the inspirational article in Gun Dog magazine about "Bart" the Vizla yet?

Made my day. :D

His owner is in our Vizsla club and we all adore "Barty" - an amazing story about a wonderful dog. Watching him run is impressive, just gives you chills.

I remember the pics when Brenda was running against him in hunt test. I had a friend with a GSP that lost a front leg and it slower her down a little but she sure didn't let it bother her too much. Dogs just don't take time to complain like most of us do.

Elkhunter, a GDF member, had a three-legged GSP that climbed the chukar hills with him.

Don't tell the dog he has a so-called disability - he sure didn't think so. R.I.P. Ruger

It was a very impressive story. I could see a three legged dog doing this if it was a back leg loss. But a front is crazy! All the weight it has to bear. That is amazing.

Yeah pretty cool.. I have often re-viewed the story about "Cooper" the blind birddog, on youtube. If you can watch that without a lump in your throat, you're an oak.

Shorthairs were the closest match to keep pace with a 3 legged dog... To get Pointers would have just been rude.

FC Steel Creek's Real Windy finshed her AKC FC and ran hour NGSPA stakes, placing I believe, after losing a front leg to a brown recluse spider bite.

Reminds me of the guys on the trap league dropping down to a 20 gauge then a 28, same thing in this case, three legged Viz to a GSP then a Pointer.

Not really.

NGD: ????? Its commonplace to shoot 12's & then subgauges in registered Skeet tourneys but as far as Trap goes, thats a new one to me.

As for practice rounds, some people believe it makes you a better shooter to practice with a subgauge... IMO it makes more sense to shoot the same gun (unless tubed) with a tighter choke.

What's really amazing is watching him swim. He will swim after a duck all day!

I used to shoot trap with a 20 gauge. That's all I had. i did all right too; amazing what you can do when you have to. ( it really ticked off the old guys though who had the "proper trap gun".
