Im back :o)

Post by JoePaTurfShoes » Sat Jul 07, 2012 2:39 am

Hey everyone it's been awhile since I posted last. I was down in Helmand Province for the first few months in country and then shifted up to Khandahar City in late April. Been up to my eyeballs with work!

Anyway, I didn't know where I was going to end up once I leave here....first it was Michigan, then Texas....well final orders are in hand. I am headed to Tucson, AZ the first of the year. :D

So looks like the Boykin Spaniel pup I am picking up from Phil and Karen Hinchman (Brandywine Creek Boykin's) will be hunting Quail and Dove and not so much Pheasant. :D

Looking for information on the area......any good trainers down that way that can help me finish the pup? Phil and Karen are starting with her but being in Arizona and them in Indiana it may be a little tougher to have them finish her.

Any thoughts on the area?

Places to live?

Things to do?

Snake Breaking a dog?

Rattlesnake Vaccine?

Good caliber for Quail and Dove (I have been over the gun thing on here before and I am leaning toward 20 gauge)

Thanks for the information in advance

Lucky, we wanted Tucson. Husband is off to Khandahar soon, too.

In Tucson, check out Zin Burger for some good burgers.

Welcome back, and thanks for serving! Enjoy the Boykin, and a 20ga should be fine for the game you are going to be hunting.

A 20 gauge is a great all-around gun and will work perfectly for dove and quail. I shoot both with a 20, as well as grouse and pheasant. If you will be just gunning for dove and quail, and don't mind the added cost of shells, a 28 gauge is a hoot as well.

Now I just need to find a place to train the dog in Southern Arizona. A google search leaves a lot to be desired.
