So my roommates dog is in heat and my in tact male gsp wants it bad. Keeping them apart is not hard and not a problem. It's the non stop crying and not eating and sleeping is what's bothering me. Is this just what male dogs do when they can't get to another dog or is there something I can be doing to calm him and stop the crying? Thanks a lot in advance!

You might aswell plan on it while she is in season & for awhile afterwords just the way it is.

Yep its why most trainers hate when they try train males with females in season around. Often they get thin, never focus, whine all the time. Not much to do but wait or board one or the other somewhere else.

All you can do is try not to strangle him!
Honestly, it only last a couple of days, but it will be a looooooong couple of days! Be very wary of him breaking out, destroying his crate and getting to her. Don't trust him for a nano second!
Easiest thing to do is to board out one of them ... pick one, any one. Save your ears and sanity!

No doubt. My "Cy dog" is an absolute and complete idiot when there's a female in heat and he knows it. He gets a bad case of the "HUB Disease"

Thanks for the replies guys. To bad I can't just talk some sense into him and tell him all this whining isn't gonna get him that thing between her legs that he wants!

You're pretty much SOL. Our boys go crazy, we usually try to ship them to a friends for a few days until the madness passes. It's easier on everybody.
