Don't think I posted this yet

Post by DonF » Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:33 am

At one of the trials this year I got a series of photo's I mught never get again.

This is the dog on point:

The next is the bird being flushed by the handler:

Then the gunner shooting the bird. Didn't get a shot of the retrieve dang it!

Came close the next week but the bird flew toward the judges and the gunner's didn't shoot.
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

I love the look from the handler at the dog the entire time. The leaning over about to yell WHOA always gets me.

Don very nice photos as always. I wish I had more of my dog at trials.

This past spring and fall I printed out a bunch of 4x6's at the trials and threw them out on a table for anyone that wanted them. next year I'm gonna ask a buck or buck and a half to help cover my expense's. Had a few pro's that got them and sent them to client's. The series here Dan didn't get because I didn't notice it till later but e3-mailed it to him soon as I found it. he sent them on. Owner really liked them.

That's too cool. But I can see where it will cost a lot to do it.

Don I know you are not in it for the $$, but it's common for photographers to take pictures at all sorts of events and charge a fair price for prints. Heck, even if you charged $5 for a digital copy sent to their email, most folks would think it was well worth it. I know I would...

As Ultra implied - you are capturing the culmination of some very hard work.

Don, I would no doubt pay for a great shot of my dog, often as a handler I wish I had a camera! I'm glad there is someone there like yourself capturing those moments! You know we talked about this, I would rather have picture of the dog than harvest a bird! Keep it up Don! I'll pay for any you get of Hattie this next season! I would love one of those start pictures you get!

There was a lady charging $25 at a trial this last winter/spring and that was only for a ribbon picture. She didn't even go out on course to take pictures. I wouldn't have a hard time paying $5 for a digital copy emailed to me either. Heck even 10-25 for the brace.... But you'll only get a pic at the start and on point. :)

Don,

Great work!

At one of our trials a couple arrived with a set up in their van. The husband took all sorts of photos and the wife did some computer editing etc and set the photos out in albums for everyone to look at. They charged 25 or 35 bucks for 8X10s. The guy went out on course and got great action shots and also did lots of random parking lot photos. Very nice work. My trainer's wife dropped a bundle on photos of their clients' dogs ( gifts). Lots of folks bought photos.

On the other hand, we had an amateur photog at another trial, and I bought a photo of my young dog in a set up situation. I asked the guy to photoshop out a person in the shot and he said he'd do it. When the pic came in the mail, he had erased most of the guy but left his foot in there   Pretty funny!

Don't mean to hijack your thread.

There are pictures of dogs, handlers, call backs, and kill on course of the last few GSPCA Nats. and the NGSPA Nats. on http://www.hi-tailyn.com/Field_Trial_Pictures.html

At these events I rode every brace and shot pictures of dogs on point, handlers flushing birds and winners that are available to buy on-line.

I will be again covering the 2012 GSPCA Amateur Nats. next month in Eureka, KS. Smile as you ride buy, or as you are flushing birds. :D

I also do one on one sessions with you and your dog on point at several locations there at the training grounds across the street. Get that perfect hero shot of your dog on point.

thanks you guy's. I did it all for free this year but told them next year I'd charge enough to cover my expenses. I've shot a lot of dog photo's but not much at trials. I figured this is my learning year. An old friend, Jim House won the Gene Pullen Momerial Award and I framed an 8x10 for him.

Image

Then two weeks ago a local wirehair club member championed out his dog. I decided that anyone at a trial where I'm at I'll give a 8x10 framed photo to is they want. I've gotten a lot from the field trial community and I figure it's time to give something back. I blew this photo of his dog up to 13x19 for myself and framed it. Gonna be another photo to hang in my trailer. Joe got all the photo's I took and gave the framed one to the breeder of his dog. Then after the trial we set his dog up for this photo.

Image

For all trialing did for me and all the good people I've met over the years, this is not that much to me. my mother wanted to know if I was going to make a lot of money at it, I told her no. thanks again you guys. By the way, do any of you realize just how cheap it is to print photo's and make the frames? Once I found that out I started feeling like a crook! I do frames for local ranchers for ten bucks and that includes the frame, glass and the foam core in the back.

Don, nice work as usual, you always have such great photos!

I'm always envious of your stuff!

Wish I had a third arm when I'm training, hunting, etc...

For some of the photos I see of dogs I'd probably pay a few hundred if it was my dog.....some photos are priceless really.

The handler is pretty well known. Dan Hoke. He always works a dog on point like that.

Dan's dry wit coupled with his poor training skilz (I kid, I kid)..must make for a fun weekend.

He does have a wry sense of humor.

I was taking cues off of the Orange vest he is wearing. I guess when I run into him at a trial ill give him a new one. :D

I was thinking Derby if it was a field trial until I saw the bird drop.
