AKC LITTER REG Q

Post by mountaindogs » Thu Sep 27, 2012 8:00 pm

I still dont have the papers on my lab puppy. The breeder "didnt have it done yet " and told us after our huge deposit and 10 hour drive to pick him up. Soooooo is there anyway to check with AKC to see if he has even registered the litter yet? I have asked him but he responds with nice friendly emails and no reference to my questions about the registration.

He wouldn't get away with that up here - The CKC disciplines breeders who don't follow the rules. Litters are to be registered and transfer of ownership available "soon after the pups are born". Because it costs them money some breeders lacking integrity try to get away without doing this ; let's hope he is just a procrastinator. I wouldn't be as easy going about this as you are. , he's had 8+ weeks.

The litter should have been reg & puppy papers given at time of pickup but there is no law that says they Have to be.Hopefully they are registerable & the breeder takes care of business but it won't be the first
time if it isn't.Hope it gets taken care of.

Good Luck!!

I am very mad but am trying to be decent. At least at first. He is VERY well known in labs....
I have all the details and registration info and OFA info on the parents. Can I call AKC to see if he has applied yet?
He did provide a bill of sale. So I have something to work with...

The puppy is amazing. Exactly what I wanted (save the papers issue) and learns very quickly! So that helps at least.

You can contact AKC and they will be able to let you know if the litter application has been applied for or issued. You are in a lot better shape than I first thought since you have pedigree, DOB, and bill of sale. I have been in a similar set of circumstances years ago and did get the papers (took over a year for me) and a LOT of phone calls. Kinda soured me on the dog... don;t let that happen to you. This was waaaaay before the internet and/or unlimited calling plans.

Contact AKC, keep on this person bigtime! and good luck. let us know how it comes out.

Sharon,
I swear my normal nature is "kill em with kindness" but sometimes I do boil over.

And it's hard to hold it against this guy... you know the eyes...

How long's it been since you picked the pup up?

Yeah, we try to send ours home with their papers.

He is 15.5 weeks old now.
I know dog people (i am one!) And I know dogs come first and everything else can get put off. Hopefully he is just running late.... but wish he would reply and just say so!

You do not need to say anymore about who on the open board.
