So I picked up my new pup today from Ellis at landmark kennels.. Saw him range 100+ yards, scent point 2 pigeon, be independent, run for a while, and had to take him for a car ride to my place. he is 4 months old as of yesterday. So the important part.

Thanks! He has some show stuff in there, a little bit of sonny and some evolution stuff also. Pedigree isn't stacked but he should be nice. At least I think so. He has a thing for birds and some independent tendencies.

So I think he was warn out. Put the crate inside my living room and left the light on.... He slept all through the night, didn't cry once, didn't pee in his crate, happy when he got up, went out and peed in the grass. came in and went back in the crate and passed out.

Now.for my 7 mile morning run with Kimber before I take him on a walk.

You will be seeing him the end of this month if your going to the Brittany trial. Been working him 2x a day for 5-10 minutes. Well see how he is.

Thanks to everyone else. Almost forgot how much of a pain these pups really are.

Its going to be trained by me like the last one was ( yes I even did the breaking process under the eye of a pro with good direction.)

I'll send the puppy out for a month or two to get horseback work and learning how to live away from home and be on the road when its around a year old. It will go to Leroy Merrell... Same trainer that runs Kimber except I'm only having them do championships with her and ill do the AKC stuff.

Oh, I know who almost ruined Kimber and I know who' fixed her. Incredible dog but why not give credit where it is due?

Interesting..... You can always pm who you are. But if you think you know who fixed her you could post that on here. I know warren eizman taught me a lot and I worked with Kimber 4-6 days a week under him. And I helped him out with a lot of stuff in return for training me how to train my dog and what to do with other dogs. I did really learn a lot from him but that was the breaking and FF process (and he is a good guy who I ref people to.) .

Nothing had to be done to let her run. I have video of the first time I let her loose on those grounds and she was gone. I got her SH prior to him and I believe her first Derby I won right? She would prob be a AA dog if some things weren't done to her when she was 4-5 months old (old trainer) . If you ask the origional guy he offered to work her for free but because of his training or lack of I was out in a bind and instead I paid $100.00 /month boarding because his kids were attached. He wanted to train her for free but I told him He was not to work with her Period and to my knowledge He didn't. . Just his kids were to play with her. I did work her on the weekends, after I got out early on academy days, and after I graduated.

Actually who really freed her up was leroy if you want to be technical. She will run even bigger for him, he got her to road, etc.

Thanks for the lesson on who diserves credit. It should actually be Carl Babb if you want to go back that far. He was the one who told me to stay away from the first guy. I thought you could still be around some people after you had a disagreement but in the dog world I learned to say screw it.

BTW who placed her in field trials more out if all the handlers?

I applaud you for identifying who helped you. Warren fixed both Kimber and helpep train you at the same train.

Here is a training pic of Ace . The first time I put him in a bird. He was also ranging 100-300 yards for only being with me a week. This guy has soo much bird drive I even blanked some birds for him on our first trip.

He is leggy. I like that look a lot and thinking it will come in handy when he hunts. He us built like Kimber at that age and his bird drive reminds me of the same. He is a male though and I'm not expecting him to develop as fast as she did. He has all the bird drive I want to see so he will be running with Kimber for excercise and handling expierence and we will wait for a lot of birds (except wild ones) until I break him in 7-8 months.

Forgot to add if he won't be a shooting dog he will be for sale at about a year and a half. The breeder has first right of refusal though.

How soon can I start training my Gsp to stand like yours? Also, how can I keep her calm? She is only 8wks and is a ball of craziness...

8 weeks old and your dog isn't broke yet? Seriously, there is no formula, each dog goes at its own pace.

If it wasn't a ball of crazieness I would worry. If you have the extra cash buy the perfect start videos and wait till your dogs older.

Work on socialization a lot and make fun road trips.

I wait till the dog has enough bird drive before I start putting the slightest pressure. But every dog is different and I'm in no rush.

At eight weeks my pups simply follow the older dogs and then climb into my arms to be carried. Best training method there is.

Might have to Troy. Put him on some birds last night and he is slamming on point and even keeps some style after the flush. No chasing. Not bad for 5 months.
