Puppy size

Post by Mstng_ray » Fri Oct 05, 2012 7:33 pm

Hi
New guy here.
Just got a 9 week old GSP and I was wondering how big she should be
On average. She seems small to me, hoping I didn't get a midget.

7-10lbs right around that area usually. Dont feel bad if she is small, my Springer came home a few days short of 8 weeks at 3.4 lbs. He is now 15 weeks and is finally growing, not where he should be but he is getting there.

Hey, small doesn't mean your dog won't hunt or out proform larger dogs in the field or at trials. My female, Summer, consistantly out hunts and out trials many bigger dogs and she is small for a Britt.
Enjoy

It will grow in phases. Don't worry.

I whelped a litter of nine this summer and weighted them at nine weeks. Smallest pup (f) was 12. 3 and the largest (m) was 17 pounds. The average weight was around 14 pounds. At six months, all the girls are within a pound or two of one another.

Hope that helps.

Hey thank you guys that helped calm me. The reason I asked was she
Is mixed with what I don't know maybe a border collie. But only really see
It in her face, not as blocked as she should be I think. Anyways maybe she will hunt
I hope. Shows interest in birds. If not I'm sure she will be a good friend.

Thats funny my daughter has a lemon pointer named summer that is small maybe 30 pounds, but she is the fastest dog in the kennel and is a firecracker in the field.
