Pad Cuts

Post by Goosehunter 1 » Sun Oct 07, 2012 8:58 pm

My Buddie and myself have been hunting the past weekends and had problems with both dogs getting their pads cut, on what we think is clam shells due to the low water levels here in Iowa. I don't know what to do. I am willing to buy the dog booties from Avery but I don't know much about them, could someone please help. I don't know if the boots are just for the field or if the dogs can also swim with them. Please help!!!

Get some cut heal from a local farm store. Boots are going to be tough to keep on in and around the water.
The second kick from a mule is of very little educational value - from Wing and Shot.

EMT ointment works a charm.

In my experience most pads heal pretty quickly. Keep them clean, covered and dry. Not ideal for hunting, but after a few days they should be pretty well healed.
