Hey all, I'd like to know your opinions and experiences with the IRWS. I'm not a field trialer, so a real big running dog is not real important to me. As I understand they are a closer working/ranging dog. The breeder I've been working with is not looking to put out show dogs but rather establish good health and hunting lines with dogs going to hunting owners. I'm just kinda trying to make the decision of what breed to get, thought I wanted a ES or maybe a red setter or maybe another britt... Just know I'm getting ready for another pup! TIA

I love the look of IRWS. Don't know much about them though. I think there's a pretty reputable breeder of hunting lines in Duluth, MN.

I have never seen one. But i saw several Red Setters last spring and was really impressed!

I've heard they mature quicker than Irish. Not something I would complain about

Here's the breeder I was talking about. I don't know much about them or the dogs, but have heard that they hunt well...take that info with a grain of salt. Pretty dogs though. I think they are imported lines as well. Not saying that makes them better, but I think the Irish lines are very field oriented.

You're in Nebraska, dognewbies' referral is in Minnesota. It's bird season and it's not that far. I've driven further to see a dog. Take a weekend, drive up and watch them hunt. Or see if the breeder has a dog he bred closer to you whose owner would invite you along as observer.

It is possible that close up European breeding is not appropriate to US hunting conditions in Nebraska. Go watch and see what you think.

One of the guys at my club has a red and white. He loves it and it's a fine hunting dog too.

Just thought I'd give this a bump. I've recieved a few pm's and any more are sure welcome. I met with a couple owners of IRWS earlier in the year, but couldn't get out in a field then. I'm hoping to hear back from one of them soon to see his girl in the field.

I've judged a few at AKC HT's...I believe them to be below average in every HT category.
