Re: National dog Show
how bout we talk about dogs that got it to do both.
Now I am speaking of shorthairs. Where dogs can compete not only in the ring but equally in the field and not be mediocre in either.
Walnut Hills
Odyssey
Rugerhiem
Hillhaven
Up n Adam
to throw out just a few that did it and/or doing it.
You can have your cake and eat it two.

Re: National dog Show
I agree. The dogs in the sporting group should be sporting dogs. They should be hunted, trialed, tested or whatever venue you play in. The whole thing is supposed to be form follows function. That is the way I always think of it.
I'd rather live on the side of a mountain, than wander through canyons of concrete and steel.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Re: National dog Show
A dog whos only credit is being "pretty" isn't much of a dog in my book............
Re: National dog Show

Re: National dog Show
Believe it or not, dogs can be both and do all the time. Most of the people I show with field trial or hunt test after the conformation title.

Re: National dog Show
decided to go and take a look at the pointing breed entry.... roughly about 12 dogs with JH's entered.
This is a small show, only 851 dogs entered, it just happens to get a huge billing by the networks.
But still sad to see so few field titles on the entered pointing dogs. It is in the middle of trial and testing season in that neck of the woods, so maybe everyone was out running dogs instead of dog showing?

People play the games they enjoy. I own a show champion. You would look at her and call her one of those useless pretty dogs...except she does hunt and her pups have field trial placements and majors in the show ring, so she produces also. Just because they don't have field titles doesn't mean they don't hunt or that they're useless.

Btw, my show champion and my dual champion have both shown at that show.
