What size crate?

Post by RSA » Tue Dec 04, 2012 12:00 am

What size crate should I get for a female GSP? Looking for sizes in inches or mm.

Thanks,

Depends on the size of your GSP. It should be big enough for the dog to stand freely and turn around in only .A "too big" crate will encourage the dog to use half for a washroom.

Good grief..Intermediate size.
20"W X 23"H X 31"D, for example.
Various makers shade these dimensions a bit one way or the other.
Look at RuffTough.
Other than at some odd extreme of GSP, that size will work swell.

It also depends on what it is used for. If it is for the car or truck then a small tight fit is good. If it is to be used for sleeping quarters then it should be big with room for the dog to lie down and stretch out to be comfortable.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I use an intermediate sized crate for transporting my pointers. The bigger dogs, up to 55-60# do just fine in them over multi-hour trips and sleep in them for several nights at field trials with no issues. The smaller dogs, 35-40#, have a bit too much room and can easily fit in a medium sized crate.

I would say your 45# GSP would do just fine in an intermdiate sized crate.
