Uber basic Astro 220 questions

Post by ACooper » Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:48 am

I have owned my Astro for quite a while, but have not used it a ton, only for the very basic functions.

Okay couple of stupid questions.
1. What am I doing wrong, every time I turn the Astro and DC40 on I have to delete the collar and add a new dog for the Astro and collar to sync. This doesn't seem right, maybe it is?

2. Has anyone downloaded the maps to a Mac, I mean is the software compatible? I would like to load the information on my computer, I have read I thought that I needed Google Earth is this correct?

1-Contact Garmin and see if they can walk you through a fix.

2-I know nothing about a mac, but I have 'uploaded/downloaded' the tracks to google earth, and it is very interesting. Google earth was free for me to load on my computer. This was very easy, I opened google earth and then plugged the Garmin cord into the computer and icons appeared walking me throught the process.

1. The 220 and the dc40 can take a while to find the satellites and to sync. Turn both on immediately after getting to your spot, get your other gear prepared, then put the collar on the dog and turn them loose. Also, make sure you are familiar with "stop tracking" and "start tracking" commands.

2. Garmin has Mac compatible versions of Basecamp. For loading maps onto the 220 they use MapInstall.

I have never had a problem turning them on. As far as connecting to the Mac, I've only done it to put maps onto the astro. Works flawlessly though. I'll give it a try the opposite direction.
