GSP
GSP
Guys I went duck hunting a few weeks ago and a guy had a GSP for duck hunting in another group.. I wasn't able to talk to them but they had two dogs that were awesome..
The thing I loved about them was they were a smaller breed of GSP's I've ever seen before..
My buddies that have them are tall long legged and these were smaller shorter faster dogs..
Is this a certain breed? I would really like to have this size dog if anyone could help me find one..

Re: GSP
I have a little one he only weighs around 24kg, my big boy weighs around 36kg (not sure what that is in pounds). But we are in Australia!

Re: GSP
Could be a Braque Francais. They're sometimes described as small GSPs.

Re: GSP
Iveseen shorthairs from 34-80lbs. It just depends on the specific dog.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

Re: GSP
My 15mo old male GSP is probably around 40lbs. He is considerably smaller than my 58lb Vizsla.
Re: GSP
My 9 month old male is in the 65 lb range, but he is also bigger then both his parents and littermates.jwnissen wrote:My 15 month old female gsp is 55 lbs and both her parents are large. She is definately a lot larger than most gsp's I have seen

Re: GSP
9mo and 65lb? How tall is this dog at the withers? My 24 1/2" tall Vizsla would look like a cow at 65lbs.
Re: GSP
27 3/4 inches at the withers, he is crazy tall.Brazosvalleyvizslas wrote:9mo and 65lb? How tall is this dog at the withers? My 24 1/2" tall Vizsla would look like a cow at 65lbs.

GSP
My current two are average for the line, female is 52, my male is 63-64.
We've had all sizes, clown bred bitch was about 41, we've had two huge males one was around 85 he was slick x uodibar, and another that was about 27-28" tall and 96 lbs in hunting condition he was pottsiepen (sp) x hustler bred. Both dogs far bigger than sire and dam.

Re: GSP
My female GSPs have ranged from 45 to 55# but the main difference in mine have been their height. My 45# female is solid muscle but small in size. She will fool you on her weight as she is petite. However, her speed, stamina, nose and desire top the charts. She is within breed standard I believe. If you we're to take a dog at the bottom of the standard and one from the top of the range, it can be quite a noticeable difference.

Re: GSP
27 3/4" tall is so far out of the breeds standard that it can't be used as a comparative, especially at such a young age. That is crazy tall.

Re: GSP
They are not runts. "runts" often grow up to be larger at least as large, just slower to catch up. There are a lot of smaller GSP's. LOTS of females are less than 40 lbs. I would give you a small word of caution. The smaller GSP's can often be more energetic. Look for smallish parents that's your best bet.
Re: GSP
I wasnt using this as a comparitive, just stating that they do come in all different shapes and sizes.Brazosvalleyvizslas wrote:27 3/4" tall is so far out of the breeds standard that it can't be used as a comparative, especially at such a young age. That is crazy tall.
Looks like he has had some bigger ones as well. I am not looking for a show dog at all just my hunting buddy.ACooper wrote:My current two are average for the line, female is 52, my male is 63-64.

Re: GSP
My GSP is a Grandson of Clown. I wasn't meaning to be overly critical about the height of that dog, I was simply trying to point out that it was not "standard".
Re: GSP
I agree with you, i didnt think you were. I am by knows means the expert just an avid hunter who enjoys his dog.Brazosvalleyvizslas wrote:My GSP is a Grandson of Clown. I wasn't meaning to be overly critical about the height of that dog, I was simply trying to point out that it was not "standard".

Re: GSP
That is the ONLY important ting. I personally don't care what a book or organization says what my dog should be, I just care that it's my dog.
