Well, Bama has had a limp on her back left leg. It started about three days after she arrived. I have been to the our vet and she did a full exam, shy xrays and she felt nothing out of place. She felt it was Pano. Which is what I got from a few on this board also. The vet told me that it could go on for up to 6 to 9 months. She gave me some Rimidyl and I am to go back in a few weeks to get her checked out.
So, I started her on the meds twice a day and for the first 3 days she was fine, no limp. Then it came back wether medicated or not. She doesn't seem to be in pain and no matter where you touch her on her leg she shows no sign of discomfort. Sometimes she walks fine and other times she favors it quite a bit. She no longer walks with it lifted off the ground completely but still seems to favor it.
My question is, any of you have much experience with Pano. I have never had a dog with it. The vet made it sound like growing pains that she will grow out of and just medicate to ease the pain but it doesn't ever seem to subside. I am of the opinion that I will get xrays next trip just to make sure there is nothing else wrong. She runs on it, jumps around, but seems to take a little extra time getting up to a stance when she is sitting or laying down. but doesn't wine or show any signs of pain. No loss of appetite and her attitude is pure puppy all the time. No signs of lack of energy or spunk.
Thanks for the help.
Joe
So, a little help with Pano.

My pup had it, or so we thought, only way to know is with x-rays.
Did she test for Lyme?

No she did not. It will be among the things we try next.

Sounds like a pup we bought that had Patiliar Luxation. Cj

My first dog got pano when she was about 8 months old and it lasted right up to about 16 months. When she ran, she looked pretty good. When she stood around, she tended to posture just a little bit, not standing flat footed. When she walked the limp varied, and there was at least one time I remember worrying me, when she refused to even let that foot touch the ground. She was never really lame on a leg for more than 2 weeks at a time, and sometimes it was just a few days. Sometimes she would be symptom free for 30 days. It didn't rotate a lot, but the limp did rotate from leg to leg over time. I'd guess we probably had 10 or less episodes in the 8 months, but I'm sure that varies from dog to dog. Her worst episode was simply unconsolable for her. We went to bed and I put her in her crate. I could hear her whining and moving about. She just couldn't lay still. I even let her out onto the bed to sleep with us, and it was just unbearable for her. I got a Rimadyl in her and she was able to sleep a couple hours later. Thankfully that was the only episode she had like that.
My vet made the determination from the symptoms and an exam. He said even with xrays, that pano may not be detectable.
If the limp is constant to one leg and lasting several weeks/month, I'd probably investigate further with the vets and see if anything shows on an xray. Also your observations about the getting up, sitting, and laying down are not anything I remember with my dog...but it's been a few years back too.

I would definitely eliminate patella luxation before going any further and I wod make sure she was seen by an ortho specialist.
