I have traveled with my dog up to about a 2 hour time limit. I am going on an 8-9 hour trip tomorrow. Any ideas, suggestions or things to look for in such a long trip?(Dog will travel in dogbox in back of pick-up)

Let the dog out every couple of hours to stretch its legs and get some water. I have done 20 hour drives with my dogs. They have a tendancy to go into limp mode on long trips, but they still need to let out often.

We drive to North Dakota every Oct. It's a 29 hour drive. I feed them at there regular times and give them a break every couple of hours to air and stretch there legs. And they dog fine. Good luck

When we travel we air dogs at 4-5 hours intervals. Unless we have puppies. If we need to stop for us, then I figure the dogs do...

Thats my schedule also, Brenda. They usually lay down and sleep if they are in their crates. They don't even gp that often when home so I figure that is good enough and they seem happy with it. They are always ready to get back in and curl up.

Adult dogs 4-5 hours, or if I feel like letting them out on one of my stops. Puppies and young dogs about every 1.5-2 hours.

One other thing we try to do on long trips (12 hrs.) is find a place where the dogs can run hard and play for about 15 minutes....seems to shave some of the hyper off them.

Most dogs will go to sleep in a moving car.

Thanks for all of the replies. Something came up right at the last minute and I did not get to make the trip but I will file these ideas for future reference.
