North to Alaska!

Post by Louburk » Sun Jan 27, 2013 9:21 pm

My 3yr old GSP and I are going to be driving from Pennsylvania up to Fairbanks, Alaska to spend 6months (apr. to sept.) Looking forward to Grouse and Ptarmigan hunting. I dont really have a specific question; just seeking wisdom/advice. Thanks.

Enjoy. Sounds like a trip of a lifetime. What's your GSP traveling in for the ride?

She will travel in the cab of the truck with me. I'll have the truck box with me, but 4000 miles is a long and cold ride.

God I miss Alaska so much. Fresh roasted ptarmigan with crowberries, mm.

Jim McCann runs Britts up in F'banks. Very nice guy too, if you need advice I'd go to him.

On a second look, April to September? You aren't going to be able to get much bird hunting done in that time frame, are you?

Well, I will be working for the first part of the trip. Grouse and ptarmigan season opens about the second week in August. I should be finished working by then. So I will have almost 2 full months to hunt. I wish hunting was my only reason for this trip, but unfortunately I'm not made of money. :D

Your coming at a great time - the snow might not be totally gone, but it'll be definitely on it's way out (well, at least in Anchorage). Don't forget to add fishing to your itinerary! If you need further info, let me know.
