Anyone on here interested in the National Championship ? If so, what dogs do you favor? Stallion is the hottest right now, but you can never count out In The Shadow. I think a dark horse could be Erin's Kentucky Gambler. You never know cuz the weather can play such a big role.

A couple of tragedies over the last 10-12 months make the field look different.

They've got Prairieland Pride nominated also. I don't think Anderson has ever won the national.

The Ames web site says he has 4 dogs that he owns or co-owns nominated. Did he scratch all 4 of them?

Ted (Prairieland Pride) has finished the 3 hours I think 3 years in a row now. Randy likes Jack's chances. I like Top (white dollar) myself he's a youngster though.

Actually, I'm changing my vote to Prairieland Pride. He's got the experience, anyone know how old he is?

Has there been many 8 year olds or older win the National?? I would think 5-7 years old would be optimal.

Any of these dogs can win it. A lot depends on your draw, weather, am vs. pm, birds moving, etc. I am pulling for a Phillips White Line Kennel bred dog to win it...one of these...

Miller's Dialing In - Gary Lester
Phillip's Time Line - Colvin Davis
Phillip's White Twist - Robin Gates

My dark horse would also be BJR or ANY dog Ike is running or a shag (for historical purposes), or... :) There are SO many good handlers/owners and dogs, it is tough to pick. I am rooting for one of Nathan's dogs.

Third brace looks interesting. Millers Happy Jack braced against his old handler , Gary Lester. Wonder how this will affect the dog?

Interesting brace this am......not only is Lester running his best dog, against one of his former dogs, but he's also got to think about protecting his" lead".....

The dog didn't look that good in some of the pics.......also, rumor has it that some of those reported backs were actually divided finds at which Gates fired his gun.......I wasn't there and don't know what actually happened, but I do know as both a handler and judge, that its hard to win in a cobbled up brace.......anybody who actually rode the brace please respond with some info......it may be too early to pop the cork setter guys

I'm noticing that several dogs are being picked up with far less than 3 hours. Some of them are being picked up following a UP, or that is how it seems just reading the reports. Is an UP so detrimental to the score that it is grounds to pick up the dog? What are some other common reasons for a handler to pick up his dog before the 3 hours are up? I assume that these dogs have to be top athletes to make it this far and are fully capable of running a three hour trial, even though I realize this is a very long time for a dog to hunt "all out" at this level. I don't follow many trials and don't know much about them but this one has captured my short attention span and brought about some questions.

I have some buddies there and they are all telling me that the River Fever bitch run by Billy Wayne Morton was by far the best on the ground. They say it wasn't even close. They're convinced the setter and Dialing in aren't in the mix.

Most folks are of the general opinion that any dog has only a certain number of 3 hour heats in them - it is that telling on them physically. No one is there simply to run their dog into the ground just to prove the dog can do it - they are there to win, and if you aren't obviously beating the dogs that have gone before you there is little point to continue to run the dog down. If the "winning" dogs have seven finds, you are an hour and a half in and your first card is an UP there isn't much you are going to do in the next hour and a half to beat the competition.
